Porsche’s 718 Boxster and Cayman T are the best “Touring” coupes
KUALA LUMPUR: The Porsche “T” series is known for its “Touring” cars as we know by the 911 T from 1968. And with such a rich history to work with, the company has taken the wraps off the 718 Boxster T and the 718 Cayman T.
These new Porsches, the 718 Boxster T and 718 Cayman T, are specially equipped with everything that would make for a perfect long drive. They weigh around 1,350 kilograms as standard while the optional automatic variant adds another 30 kilograms. Apart from this, there is the base engine of the 911 Carrera T from last year and a puristic manual unit. Performance enhancement is added here as well but the cars are debarred off any unnecessary equipment.
With this said, there is a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine that can churn 300 PS of power and 380 Nm of torque. The power is delivered to the wheels via a 6-speed manual unit while there is a dual-clutch automatic added as an option. There is also the Porsche Torque Vectoring for the extra power of the wheels as and when needed.
With such power delivered to the wheels, the 718 T series can accelerate from 0-100 kmph in just 5.1 seconds with the manual while the automatic can do the same in 4.7 seconds. The top speed that it can clock is 275 kmph.
Moreover, the touring Porsche 718 T models do have their sporty bit intact. It has the PASM (Porsche Active Suspension Management) which has got the chassis to be lower by 20 mm. This is the first time that the PASM is added to a base engine variant. They ride on 20-inch high-glass titanium grey wheels as standard.
The Porsche 718 Boxster and Cayman T offer some of the best parts of higher variants, but with the base engine, which seems to be the perfect combination for entry-level buyers. So, if you are planning to get long drives in the weekends, the Touring series is the way to go.
