Porsche launched the 922-gen 911 in Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: Big news people! The 922-generation Porsche 911 is finally here in Malaysia. The car has been launched by the brand’s official distributor, SimDarby Auto Performance in two guises - Carrera S and Carrera 4S. The rear-wheel-drive C2S model holds a starting price tag of RM 1.15 million, while the C4S will set you back by RM 1.22 million. The prices mentioned above includes free maintenance (including labour and parts) and 4-year or 200,000 km warranty.

The 8th-gen 911 model is powered by a 3.0-litre six-cylinder petrol mill that for the first time features piezo injectors. While the cooling comes from a new intercooler, the power unit is also fitted with a larger symmetrical turbocharger. The said engine makes 450 PS of maximum power at 6,500 rpm along with a peak torque of 530 Nm from 2,300 to 5,000 rpm. Compared to the 911.2 Carrera S, it is 30 PS and 30 Nm more.

The power plant is coupled to a new 8-speed fast-shifting PDK transmission that enables the car to hit the 100 kmph mark in 3.7 seconds, with the optional Sports Chrono Pack, the time reduces to 3.5 seconds. The top speed of 306 kmph is achieved at the 6th gear.

On the outside, the all-new 911 now showcases the wide bodywork that was earlier limited to all-wheel-drive Porsche’s. The car gets prominent gun barrel LED projector headlights, 84 individual LEDs in top LED headlight matrix, four-point LED daytime running lights, and wide air intakes. On to the side, it features 20-inch front and 21-inch rear wheels, and the first time ever electric door handles. The rear gets LED taillights joined by a wide LED light strip, pause symbol shaped LED brake light, and dual exhaust exits. One visual difference between the C2S and C4S is that the former gets black louvers on the grille, the later features chrome elements.

The inside is more luxurious compared to the previous model. The car’s specs sheet list features like the five-dial instrument cluster, two seven-inch digital instrument, a high-resolution 10.9-inch touchscreen display with Porsche Communication Management, five retro-styled switches, new electronic gear shifter, a cup holder located in the centre console, and redesigned seats with better shoulder and lateral support.

The 992 Porsche 911 Carrera S also comes with what’s called a Wet mode, world’s first as per the Porsche. With this mode, driving the car in the rain becomes much safer. On the safety front, it is equipped with Night Vision Assist with thermal imaging camera, adaptive cruise control with automatic distance control, autonomous emergency assist (AEB), reversible occupant protection, and stop-and-go function.
