Porsche 911 Sport Classic: Reviving the style of the 60s & 70s

KUALA LUMPUR: The stunning car you see above is the second of Porsche's four collector's items from its Heritage Design strategy. The first model from Porsche's Heritage Design strategy was the 2020 presented 911 Targa 4S Heritage Design Edition. It was inspired by the 911 from the 50s and 60s.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • Which engine powres the Porsche 911 Sport Classic?

    Porsche 911 Sport Classic revealed

On every purchase of the collector's edition model, Porsche offers a high-quality chronograph that seamlessly picks up details from the car. And don't worry if you can't buy the new 911 Sport Classic; one can get a somewhat similar look and feel by opting for the select interior elements Porsche offers for the most current 911s.

Porsche's Head of Customisation and Classic, Alexander Fabig, said, "The Heritage Design models represent the more emotionally driven concepts of the Porsche product strategy." He further added, "This unique approach sees the Style Porsche design department working with Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur to reinterpret iconic 911 models and equipment from the 1950s through to the 1980s and to revive design features from those decades."

Let us now get to know the new 911 Sport Classic in detail -

    Design

    Porsche 911 Sport Classic design

The all-new 911 Sport Classic showcases several distinctive design elements like a wide-body stance (reserved for the 911 Turbo models), a fixed rear spoiler, and a double-bubble roof.

It features the exclusive Sport Grey Metallic paintwork, which as per the automaker's Style Porsche Vice President Michale Mauer, “is never boring, quite often a statement and always cool." Also, the twin stripes on the bonnet, roof and rear spoiler give the car a sporty appearance.

The 911 Sport Classic is also offered in solid Black, Gentian Blue Metallic, and Agate Grey Metallic hues.

Not to forget, the side number graphics can be picked by the owner at will (any number between 1 to 99).

    Interior

On the inside, the new 911 Sport Classic two-tone, semi-aniline Black/Classic Cognac leather upholstery offers an elegant contrast with the exterior tone. The door panels and seat centres, on the other hand, showcase the iconic Pepita houndstooth pattern. This pattern comprises small squares connected by diagonal stripes and was first seen as an official option on the 1965 Porsche 911.

The 7-inch with two high-resolution displays instrument cluster is undoubtedly a modern inclusion but with several historic details like - a classic style needle in the analogue rev counter and the green display that pays tribute to the Porsche 356.

    Engine

    Porsche 911 Sport Classic powertrain

Powering the new 911 Sport Classic is a 3.7-litre twin-turbo flat-six engine generating maximum power of 550 PS. The drive is sent to the rear wheels via a seven-speed manual gearbox with an auto-blip function (which compensates for engine speed differences between the gears). In short, this one is the most powerful manual 911 around.

The car offers an amazing emotive sound experience, thanks to the specially tailored standard sports exhaust system.

    Braking & handling

    Porsche 911 Sport Classic specs

Assuring a smooth ride all along is the standard Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) system, whose shock absorbers respond to the dynamic changes at lightning speed.

The PASM is combined with sports suspension with a 10 mm lower ride height for added comfort. As mentioned, the 911 Sport Classic features rear-wheel drive (meaning axel load at the front is lower compared to all-wheel drive units), and the automaker has reduced the front axle spring rate slightly.

Part of the vehicle's standard equipment kit is Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake (PCCB). The brake callipers are sprayed in a high-gloss black tone with a white Porsche logo.
