Assembled in Malaysia Peugeot 2008 just launched in Thailand

KUALA LUMPUR: In case you were unaware, Peugeot is part of the Stellantis Automotive group and they secured full ownership of NAZA Automotive Manufacturing Sdn. Bhd. and its manufacturing plant located in Gurun, Kedah on the 28th of October this year.

Over 170 employees have returned to work and Stellantis is working with more than 50 local Malaysian suppliers with production ramping up for the remainder of 2021 to meet the moving demand.

Now the first vehicle to roll out of this assembly plant is the new Peugeot 2008 and it is destination is not for Malaysian showrooms, instead it is being sent to customers in Thailand. Yes, Stellantis is assembling this award-winning all-new Peugeot 2008 in Malaysia, to meet customer demand across the South East Asia region starting with Thailand right now.

The locally-manufactured new Peugeot 2008 is already 2 years old in terms of production release date. It was unveiled in 2020 in Europe with great fanfare as an extension of the company’s product offering.

Sales of this compact SUV will commence in Thailand this month, December, with additional right-hand drive and left-hand drive markets across South East Asia to follow in the coming year.

This new Peugeot 2008 is a proper SUV with a length of 4.30m and a wheelbase of 2.60m providing a comfortable boot volume of 434L. Its modularity is ensured by a two-position floor which provides a virtually flat floor once the rear seat is folded.

With a variety of new storage on board, you will be able to keep everything you need on a daily basis with you. In addition to the traditional door pockets and the glove box, there is ample storage space under the front center armrest and more in front of the gear stick.

Additionally, there is more discreet storage at the bottom of the central console. There you'll find the very convenient induction charging area and its lid, which in an open position can cleverly hold a smartphone.

This newly assembled in Malaysia Peugeot 2008 is equipped with Full LED Headlights, Signature 3-claws Light, the new Peugeot i-Cockpit® 3D, 3D Quartz Cluster and 7-inch HD Touchscreen with Toggle Switches.

Also featuring the latest Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), this new Peugeot 2008 offers safety and technology features including:

· Automatic Emergency Braking (VAEB)

· Speed Limit Information and Intelligent Speed Adaption (SLI/ISA)

· High Beam Assist (HBA)

· Lane Keep Assist (LKA)

· Driver Attention Assist 3 (DAA3)

· Front and Rear Parking Sensors with Rear Camera

· Active Blind Spot Detection + Lane Keep Assist (LKA)

Adapted for ASEAN buyers, this Malaysian assembled 2008 will deliver best-in-class performance for the local conditions as claimed by Stellantis. This new Peugeot 2008 has undergone specific endurance and quality testing on Malaysian roads and this is why it was spotted. The Peugeot 2008 has successfully endured 200,000 kilometres of testing in the diverse local climate and environmental landscape to ensure it meets the needs of customers in South East Asia.

Production of the new Peugeot 2008 at the Stellantis manufacturing plant in Malaysia is a significant accomplishment for Stellantis, overcoming forced closure of the plant for months on end in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
