The Malaysia-born automaker launched the upgraded MPV back in July with more than 30,000 bookings in hand, which was the highest ever in the brand’s history. Well, this number has now grown to 51,000. So far, the automaker has completed 15% of orders with the delivery of 7,682 Alzas.

Coming to the model-wise breakdown of Perodua August sales numbers, the Bezza enjoys the lead with 6,808 units, followed by the Myvi and Axia at 6,252 units and 4,857 units, respectively. Adding to that are the above-mentioned Alza’s deliveries.

If we look at the year-to-date figures, the Myvi is still the brand’s best-selling car with 48,658 units registered between January and August. Holding the second spot is the Bezza with 39,642 units, followed by the Axia with 37,013 units.

The company witnessed a sales growth of 63.7% on a year-to-date basis with a total registration of 171,728 units so far this year compared to last year’s 104,933 figure. However, the YTD comparison is distorted as the nation observed a lockdown between June to mid-August last year.

According to Perodua President and Chief Executive Officer, Dato’ Sri Zainal Abidin Ahmad, August was the best month so far this year in terms of production leading to strong delivery numbers.

    Dato’ Sri Zainal Abidin Ahmad

He explained that “the improvement in production and sales came about as some key issues such as the semiconductor chip supply shortage and insufficient labour at the supplier’s operations; however, these issues have been resolved at the moment.”

“We are also closely monitoring the increase in prices of raw materials at the moment and are working with the ecosystem on how best to mitigate this impact to our operations,” he added.
