Perodua Myvi - Features we love

Perodua Myvi - Features we love

It is no secret that Perodua is a significant heavyweight in the Malaysian automotive scene. Their cars have no real issues finding homes or owners. In a market where the walls start closing in on cars the moment they are launched, some of these automobiles find the challenge a complete non-issue. The Perodua Myvi was born out of a need to serve the masses -- something the B-segment hatchback has pulled off without a shadow of doubt.

Perodua Myvi side

The third generation of the Perodua Myvi came out back in 2017, with the Malaysian auto major releasing the facelifted iteration to further boost the reach of the brand and its well-liked hatchback. That becomes clear when you realise that the Perodua Myvi, till date, has sold well over a million units. Of course, there are several factors that make this family hatchback so famous.

So let’s take a look at some of the most popular features of the Perodua Myvi that really helps it catch the eye of the buyer.

1. LED headlamps

Perodua Myvi

Most cars in this price range (including rival Proton Iriz) usually come with regular halogen headlamps, and while they serve the purpose well, they are no longer at the cutting edge or look cool. Headlamps not only are an integral component of vehicle safety but also make up the car’s face.

Thankfully, in the case of the Perodua Myvi, it isn’t shipped with old-school halogen bulbs - the hatchback boasts stylish yet extremely functional LED headlamps as standard. The Myvi’s LED main units also come with a ‘follow-me-home’ functionality plus an ‘auto-off’ feature for added convenience.

2. Boot space

As a family car, it is important that the Perodua Myvi be capable of carrying at least a couple of travel bags in the boot. Once again, the Myvi takes care of this department well. Unlike its Iriz competitor, the Perodua Myvi’s boot can haul up to four travel bags - totalling a capacity of 277 litres. The wide aperture of the Myvi’s boot also enables easy loading and unloading of items.

3. Leather seats

While leather upholstery is not anything new, the specifics of the setup can make all the difference. The fully-loaded variant of the Perodua Myvi sports full-leather upholstery on the seats, compared to the part-leather seats found in the Proton Iriz. This makes this cabin look and feel slightly more premium, while the soft leather provides an additional layer of comfort as well.

4. Driver seat USB port

There are many expensive cars that come equipped with a charging port for your smart devices behind the driver’s seat. However, there aren’t many cars in this price category that offer the same feature -- the Perodua Myvi isn’t one amongst them.

Perodua Myvi FEATURES

The driver’s seat on the Perodua Myvi integrates a USB charging port, which will undoubtedly come in handy for those in the back. On the other hand, some of the Myvi’s closest rivals don’t seem to offer the same feature.

5. More airbags

Compared to the Proton Iriz, the new Perodua Myvi specs sheet comes with at least four airbags as standard even on the base variant -- the entry-level Iriz, on the other hand, only offers two airbags as standard.

On the Perodua Myvi, buyers benefit from six airbags even on the H variant (the penultimate trim), whereas the equivalent Iriz variant still only offers four airbags. Not just that, the Myvi H even costs slightly less than its Proton Iriz equivalent by a few hundred ringgits.

6. Advanced safety assist (A.S.A)

Unlike its closest rival, the new Perodua Myvi comes with some really modern features to enhance the safety of its occupants. Perodua’s Advanced safety assist (A.S.A) suite is a boon when it comes to automotive safety in the current day & age. Also, as good as it sounds, ASA brings in equally positive and vital technologies such as Pre-Collision Warning (PCW), Pre-Collision Braking (PCB), Front Departure Alert (FDA), and Pedal Misoperation Control (PMC).

When it comes to the Perodua Myvi’s ASA package, the Pre-Collision Warning feature is a passive system whilst the Pre-Collision Braking software activates when it detects you closing in on a vehicle in front of you. On the same front, the Pedal Misoperation Control prevents drivers from inadvertently accelerating into a wall or another vehicle -- for example, during parking manoeuvres.

7. Built-in toll reader

In a country where tolls are a part & parcel of life, the new Perodua Myvi’s built-in toll reader comes in really handy. The feature, which is only available in models that are equipped with the 1.5-litre engine, enables drivers to use tolls without much of a faff. This is a feature that is not available in cars that are in the same genre, including the Iriz.

8. Acoustic windshield

Compared to a few cars in this segment, the Perodua Myvi comes fitted with an acoustic windshield. This means that the cabin of the Myvi is comparatively quieter than that of rivals, mostly thanks to the fitment of an acoustic windshield which works quite well.
An acoustic windshield lowers the amount of sound that enters the cabin - including wind noise, thus reducing the discomfort for the occupants onboard.

9. Fuel efficiency

Perodua Myvi rear

The Perodua Myvi is blessed with two really frugal engines: a 1.3-litre and 1.5-litre four-cylinder units. Compared to the Iriz, the Perodua Myvi is comparatively better when it comes to consuming the furl in its tank. For example, the best the Iriz can achieve is well under 20 kmpl, whilst the Myvi can score around kmpl in a combined cycle.
