Perodua D55L SUV - Things we know
Perodua D55L is a name that we have been hearing about for quite some time now. We know Perodua is testing it out on the roads. However, there aren’t many details about the sub-compact SUV in question. But one thing is for sure, the D55L is expected to give competition to Proton X50, which should also be launched this year. So it is a tradition Perodua vs Proton battle here once again.
Perodua D55L has already received so much attention and hype that it has become one of the most anticipated cars of the year. And just like you guys, we too, are pretty curious to find out more about the same. So, here are the things about the Perodua D55L that we know so far.
Perodua D55L SUV Exterior
This is no hidden fact that the upcoming Perodua D55L will be very similar to that of the Daihatsu Rocky and/or Toyota Raize. It will be based on Daihatsu New Global Architecture (DNGA) and share a handful of parts and components. Some of the key exterior features of the D55L would include-
- Full-LED headlights
- LED daytime running lights
- Front grille with horizontal slats
- LED fog lamps
- Large wheel arches
- LED rear combination lamps with signature highlights
- Shark fin antenna
- Sporty rear bumper
- Powered side view mirrors with integrated turn signals
Not just the features, the Perodua D55L dimensions are very likely to be similar to that of the Daihatsu. It will be 3,995 mm long, 1,695 mm wide, and 1,620 mm tall. Its wheelbase will be 2,525 mm.
Perodua D55L SUV Interior
Things will follow suit even on the inside of the Perodua D55L. It will have a dual-tone theme dominated by black colour. The seat will have a patterned-fabric and/or leather. The 3-spoke steering wheel will have a bunch of buttons for control audio, telephony, etc. Perodua might use silver accents in various parts of the cabin.
Some of the key interior features of the D55L would be-
- Mechanical handbrake
- 7-in MID
- 9-inch infotainment display with Apple CarPlay
- Climate control
- Power adjustable driver seat
- LED speedometer
Being a sub-compact SUV, the D55L should have enough space to accommodate 5 people easily. Regarding the leg- and headroom, that we will have to see when it is launched.
Perodua D55L SUV Powertrain
Since Toyota Raize and Daihatsu Rocky feature a 1.0-litre 3-cylinder turbocharged engine, it is quite likely that Perodua is going to use the same engine in the D55L. It produces 98 PS of max power and 140 Nm of peak torque. Regarding the transmission, it will be a CVT unit. To keep the costs in check, we don’t think an AWD version of the D55L would be made available, however, perhaps, a hybrid variant could make it sometime later after the car is launched.
Perodua D55L SUV Safety Features
Apart from some of the basic safety features like ABS, EBD, traction control, stability control, hill-start assist, hill-hold, reverse parking sensor with camera, etc., the Perodua D55L specs would also list adaptive cruise control, park assist, autonomous emergency braking, 6 airbags, etc. We doubt the presence of advanced safety features like pre-collision warning and braking, blindspot detection, front departure alert, lane-keep assist and warning, etc.
So these were some of the things about Perodua D55L that we know so far and it looks quite promising. As per the latest findings, it is being speculated that Perodua could launch the D55L sometime during the second half of 2020 and it will sit below the Perodua Aruz. We are expecting to get more details in the coming months. Until that happens, what do you think Perodua D55L's real name would be?
