Perodua aims to sell 30k cars this month
KUALA LUMPUR: Due to a two-and-a-half-month sales and production halt this year, Perodua revised its 2021 sales target from 240,000 to 214,000 units, back in September. But as the supply issue continues, breaching even the 200k mark seems difficult for the automaker. In November 2021, it sold 20,299 units with a month-to-month decline of 27.1%. The year-to-date sales numbers sit at 167,250 units with a year-on-year decline of 14.2%.

Perodua’s year-to-date sales numbers sit at 167,250 units with a year-on-year decline of 14.2%.To touch the 200k mark, the brand is aiming for the highest ever monthly registration in its history with at least 30,000 units to be sold in December.
Perodua President and Chief Executive Officer, Dato’ Zainal Abidin Ahmad said, “We wish to apologise for the delay in delivery and thank all our customers for their support and patience, especially in the most challenging year so far.
“We are working with the automotive ecosystem to overcome these issues, such as rising Covid-19 cases as well as the semiconductor chip supply shortage, and with these countermeasures in place, we see December 2021 as our best month yet,” he added.
Besides making efforts to smooth deliveries, the company hopes that the all-new Perodua Myvi will contribute to reaching the target. As of December 2, the automaker has accumulated 14,600 orders for its best-selling model.
“November was slightly slower in terms of registration for the Myvi as there was a delivery gap for that model as we waited for the latest variant to launch. In fact, of the 14,600 units booked, 7,189 orders were converted from the previous variants,” Dato’ Zainal said.
Between January and November this year, Perodua has sold 42,288 Myvis.
For the next year, Perodua is hopeful to get at least 240,000 registrations with market stabilisation and a reduced waiting period. “We believe that the worst is behind us in terms of Covid-19 related lockdowns– Insya Allah – and while there are other risks in the market, we foresee the year 2022 as a year of recovery. The 240,000 registration number is important as we want to grow the Malaysian automotive ecosystem,” he concluded.
