Off-road ready Subaru Forester Wilderness leaked

KUALA LUMPUR: Earlier this year, Subaru unveiled the rugged Wilderness version of the Outback SUV and now it is ready to pull the wraps off the 2022 Forester Wilderness. But before we meant to see it officially, the leaked images and details of the off-road SUV are in front of us. But how? Well, the automaker itself let the cat out of the bag. 

The 2022 Subaru Forester Wilderness has been officially listed on the brand’s Canadian website along with some basic details, which although have been deleted now. As per the Carscoops, the information was first noticed by Twitter user Jonathan B-Potvin. 

So, what does the new Subaru Forester Wilderness have on offer?

The crossover has beefed-up looks with beefier cladding and increased ride height for better suspension, just like its wagon sibling. It runs on bespoke 17-inch black-painted wheels shod with all-terrain tyres. The Subaru engineers also enhanced the roof rails’ load capacity of the vehicle, to make it capable of handling extra gear. Also part of the rugged kit is underbody skid plates.

On the mechanical front, the Forester Wilderness benefits from a retuned continuously variable transmission, although the mill continues to be the same. As per the reports, the new gearbox has a lower gear ratio for better power in low rpms. The 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine produces a maximum power output of 182 hp along with a peak torque of 239 Nm.

Moving inside, here we can see a few upgrades in line with the SUV’s exterior ruggedness. These include non-leather, water-resistant covers for the seats, all-weather rubber floor mats, and darker accents. It also houses a distinctive instrument panel and an 8-inch infotainment screen. The driver-assistance and safety duties are taken care of by Subaru’s EyeSight safety suite.

Subaru will officially unveil the Forester Wilderness on September 2, 2021. After which, the debut of the new 2022 WRX will take place on September 10.
