Nissan unveils new SUV concept, Magnite
KUALA LUMPUR: Nissan will soon launch a new compact SUV that will first go on sale in the Indian market, hopefully, followed by the rest of the ASEAN market. Well, this information is confirmed with the recent premiere of the Magnite Concept by Nissan India.
In the past, Nissan has teased the Magnite Concept in bits and pieces; however, now we fully know how the SUV looks. The concept showcases sloping A- and C-pillars that give it a crossover-like stance, making it easily distinguishable in the pool of crossover market. Besides exterior elements like a sculpted bonnet, exaggerated wheel arches, and massive grille, give it a full-bodied appearance.
Speaking on occasion, Rakesh Srivastava, Managing Director, Nissan Motor India, said, “The Nissan Magnite is an evolutionary leap in Nissan’s global SUV DNA. With cutting-edge technology on board, it will be a game-changer in its segment.”
The Magnite concept has borrowed design elements from across the brand’s lineup - its stretched-back headlamps link it to the Kicks, while the sizable grille reminds us of Nissan’s large SUVs. The octagonal and L-shape of the grille and DRLs, are further taken from Datsun. What’s interesting is that the Magnite concept started its life as a Datsun project, but as a production version, it will wear a Nissan badge.
The concept currently features stylish wheels, and off-road tyres, which we doubt will make an appearance in the production version. However, we expect to see elements like chrome cladding on door sills and wheel arches, chrome door handles, blackened A-pillar, and contrast roof. The rear styling is uncluttered with a chunky tailgate, wrap-around LED headlamps, and bumper brushed silver pieces and scuff plates.
Details about the interior are yet to be shared; however, the brand spokesperson did suggest the roomiest cabin in class. On the feature front, Nissan confirmed the following elements -
- 8.0-inch touchscreen
- Cruise control
- 360-degree cameras
- Auto climate control
- Multi-functional steering wheel
The Nissan Magnite production version will be offered in a total of four powertrain options., including - 72 hp 1.0-litre naturally-aspirated unit, 3-CYL petrol engine with manual and AMT options, and a 1.0-litre 3-CYL turbo petrol engine making around 95 hp of power, coupled with manual and CVT automatic gearbox options.
