Nissan to bid farewell to R35 with Final limited edition
KUALA LUMPUR: According to a Japanese publication, Best Car Web, Nissan is preparing a swansong for the R35 GT-R. The automaker will be doing so by introducing a limited edition model that's aptly named Final.
The Nissan R35 GT-R Final edition will be revealed in 2022, with the successor of the R35, the R36 arriving the following year. The reports further claim the R35 Final edition to be a collector's time with Nissan only building 20 units each with a hefty price tag of 40 million yen.
Powering the Nissan R35 GT-R Final will be a hand-built 3.8-litre twin-turbo V6 petrol engine making 710 PS of power. Best Car Web further says that the said power plant will be based on the power unit featuring on the GT-R GT3 race car. Meaning it is possibly the same mill powering the Italdesign's GT-R50, an over million-dollar limited edition that marked the nameplate's 50th anniversary.
Speaking of which, the automaker upgraded the GT-R50 by Italdesign engine with fitments like larger intercoolers, competition-spec turbochargers, revised exhaust systems and intake, revised camshaft profiles, high-flow piston oil jets, high-flow fuel injectors, and optimised ignition. All these mechanical changes and more resulted in an engine churning 710 PS and 780 Nm of torque.
As for the R36, we hear that Nissan is planning to electrify it by introducing a Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS). The same system featured in the 2015 GT-R LM Nismo prototype, where it fed energy to flywheels through the front brakes and sent it to both the axles via independent driveshafts.
