Nissan teases its smallest SUV, to reveal on July 16th
KUALA LUMPUR: Nissan, on the 16th of July, will reveal its new sports utility vehicle. It is said to be the smallest SUV in the company’s global lineup and will be called the Magnite. The upcoming ‘B-SUV’ will be put on display in Japan in concept form, however, as per sources close to the automaker, the car on display will be close to the production model with only the tyres and wheels differing in the on-sale car.
Nissan Magnite design language
The teaser shows the SUV under wraps, with only its front-right fascia visible. So, we only see a few exterior elements, including large wheels covered in off-road tyres, thick wheel arches, and scuff plates. These elements will be toned down in the final product, with only a few takeaways from the teaser image.
The sleek, stretched-back LED headlamps on the Magnite reminds us of the Nissan Kicks. But it is not just the Nissan products; the SUV also gives us a glimpse of Datsun cars - the large L-shaped DRLs can be seen on the all-new redi-Go, an entry-level hatch in the Indian market. The front octagonal grille also gives a very Datsun-like in appearance.
The teaser shows the SUV feature thick body cladding running across the wheels. Besides, two-tone body paint is also on the list.
Nissan Magnite platform
As per current information, the upcoming Nissan SUV will share its platform with the Renault Triber, meaning it will be a super spacious car. For better clarity, the Triber boasts a wheelbase of 2636 mm, which is better than most of the existing compact SUVs and even compact sedans for that matter.
Nissan Magnite feature list
Nissan has not spill any beans regarding the SUVs equipment list. However, to give stiff competition to its rivals, the automaker will need to pack it well on the feature front. We expect it to get a Triber-like feature list that includes a 360-degree camera, a large touchscreen infotainment system, four airbags, a digital instrument cluster, and a remote engine start/stop. The inclusion of sunroof is also a possibility.
Nissan Magnite specifications
The Magnite SUV will be offered with two engine options - a 72 hp/96 Nm churning 1.0-litre 3-CYL BR10 petrol engine and a 1.0-litre 3-CYL HR10 turbo mill producing 95 hp. Transmission options include a CVT automatic and 5-speed manual.
Overall the Nissan Magnite seems to be a great product with striking design and advance features. The car will first go on sale in India (at the beginning of 2021) with a starting price of INR 5.50 lakh (approx RM 31,514).
