Nissan teases Gripz concept inspired by 240Z rally cars
Kuala Lumpur: Nissan has released new preview images and a new video for its Gripz concept car, which will be unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show later this month. Better known as the “Gripz” concept, it is a sporty new crossover and according to the company's claims, “a new way to feel driving excitement”.
Quoting successful sales from crossovers such as the Juke, Qashqai, and the X-Trail, Nissan says this new concept car will help the brand “continue to innovate and move the bar higher”. Its design inspiration comes from the world of two wheels, and the video shows a road cyclist negotiating a tight mountain pass.
The teaser reveals a lot of information about its exterior design. It shows a sporty front of the car featuring Nissan's current styling language with characters seen on recent concept cars. Highlighted by the trademark V-shaped grille, the nose is quite aggressive, credits to its sharp lines and creases, as well as a pair of slender, boomerang-shaped headlamps. The silver insert in the grille complements the LED headlamps.

Is there something more in store with this concept car? Surely. Nissan Gripz finished in two-tone livery featuring bright red fenders, a black hood, and a black nose stand out the car distinctively in the range of concept crossovers.
Though the rest of the vehicle isn’t visible clearly in the images and the video, the way the roof line arches above the doors suggest that it could have a coupe body style.

The concept’s drivetrain is also a mystery; it could be either a turbocharged gasoline engine, likely a four-cylinder, or a hybrid drivetrain. Whatever the case, it should generate in excess of 200 horsepower given its sporty appearance. Or, simply it may appear equipped with 2014 Nissan Juke Nismo RS' 1.6-litre four-banger inspired powertrain. We’ll find out more in Frankfurt at the debut, so stay tuned.
