Nissan marks its presence at the 2018 KLIMS with Note e-Power and Leaf
KUALA LUMPUR: Nissan has been working really hard with its cars and technology and is quite upbeat with the other automakers around the globe. And keeping pace with the other automakers as well, the company has brought two of its cars at the ongoing KLIMS 2018, both being electric models.
The two cars being previewed are the Note e-Power and the Leaf, the latter of which is to make a debut in the country by mid-2019. However, the concept of displaying the Note e-Power is slightly different as the unit being showcased does not have a hood lid. Hence, it is considered to be a show model to collect the response of the public regarding the range extender engine technology. Yet, it is to be noted that the car, despite being an EV, does not have a socket to connect to the power source.
However, Edaran Tan Chong Motor, the official distributor of Nissan cars in the country, did reveal that it is planning to bring the e-Power here. The vehicle has a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder engine that can make 79 PS of power and 103 Nm of torque and an electric motor from the previous Leaf, which makes 109 PS of power and 254 Nm of torque. However, the petrol motor is not connected to the wheel by any means, which indicates that the power does not hit the ground at all. Yet, the system is good enough to provide maximum torque from an electric motor without getting the range anxiety.
Apart from this, the presence of the range extender also indicates the fact that the battery might be much smaller compared to the old Leaf. This would help it to be placed under the front seat instead of the rear, thereby increasing a lot of cabin space.
So the question is, will the Nissan Note e-Power be introduced here? And even if it does, there is no specific timeline for it as of now.
