Nissan Magnite SUV revealed, launch next year
KUALA LUMPUR: After unveiling the concept of the all-new Magnite SUV back in July, Nissan has finally taken the covers off its road-ready version in India. It will compete in the sub-4 metre SUV space that already has players like Ford EcoSport, Hyundai Venue, and the recently launched Kia Sonet in the said market.
The pint-size Nissan Magnite looks chic with most of the concept’s styling retained. Upfront, it boasts a wide hexagonal grille, sleek LED projector headlamps, LED fog lamps, and L-shaped LED DRLs that give the Magnite an aggressive stance. The A-pillars of this small SUV are raked although the flattish-roof lends it a slightly boxy look. There are soft lines on the sides and LED tail lamps are placed on the elegantly styled rear-end.
Based on the same CMF-A+ architecture as other Renault-Nissan models, the Nissan Magnite is expected to get a naturally aspirated 1.0-litre unit three-cylinder petrol engine generating 72 PS of maximum power and 96 Nm of peak torque. Another engine on offer would be a turbocharged three-pot expected to produce 100 PS and 152 Nm of torque. The engines may be paired with a 5-speed manual transmission.
On the feature-front, Nissan is likely to offer a lot with this upcoming SUV. It could comprise an 8-inch touchscreen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay (first-in-class), a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, auto climate control, a 360-degree camera, and push-button start/stop. A ‘Tech Pack’ is also expected on the range-topping Magnite trim that will feature ambient lighting, a better audio system, air purifier, wireless charging, and puddle lamps.
According to the automaker, the upcoming Magnite will offer segment-leading legroom for rear-seat passengers and a generous cargo capacity of 336 litres that would be extendable by folding the 60:40-split-bench.
For safety, dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, hill assist, traction control, Hydraulic Brake Assist, speed-sensing door lock, and Vehicle Dynamics Control will be on the list.
It is slated to go on sale in India in January 2021, before moving to other markets of the world.
