Nissan coming up with a new Z sports car
KUALA LUMPUR: While on the one hand there are reports of Nissan working on a new logo that it might reveal soon, the automaker is also working on a new sports car. Yes, Nissan is developing a new Z sports car that is expected to be named the 400Z.
According to a recent report, the Nissan sports car is right on track and was scheduled for a 2020 reveal. However, due to the COVID-19 outbreak, the 400Z debut is shifted to 2021.
Overall the news of a new sports car is a good one, as it has been long since Nissan came out with one. The 370Z is a bit too old, even to mention, and the GT-R is also starting to show its age. At present, not much is known about the car apart from its expected name. On the design front, the car’s front fascia will take clues from the iconic 240Z while the rear end might remind us of the 300ZX. Nissan is said to have a fresh take on the interiors with some inspirations from the previous Nissan sports cars. Currently, we can only speculate the details, as all the info is under covers.
Powering the Nissan 400Z will most likely be the Infiniti borrowed 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 powertrain. This unit from the VR family is expected to churn out 400 PS of maximum power and will take 0 to 100 kmph sprint in under 5 seconds. This front-engined rear-wheel-drive sports car will most likely use a dual-clutch; however, the possibility of a manual transmission can not be ignored. Also, going by the current auto trends, the 400Z is expected to be fitted with several driving aids.
All being said, the Nissan 400Z is, without a doubt, a highly anticipated sports car. On arrival, it will give stiff competition to the likes of BMW M2 Competition, Toyota Supra, Porsche Cayman, and the Alpine A110.
We and all the auto buffs are genuinely excited for the Nissan sports car mainly because it has taken a lot of inspiration from legends like the 240Z, 260Z, and 280Z.
