Nissan can go bankrupt by 2022, said Carlos Ghosn

KUALA LUMPUR: The former boss of Nissan, Carlos Ghosn said that the company could go bankrupt in the coming two-three years. This came to light after a former prosecutor and a vocal critic of Japan, Nobuo Gohara interviewed him in a 10-hour long session before Carlos managed to escape from Japan. Ghosn met Gohara five times in a period of two months before being fugitive.

Gohara said, “He told me that Nissan will probably go bankrupt within two to three years.” He also mentioned that Ghosn didn’t reveal on which grounds he was making such a bold statement and why would the company face financial troubles. On the issue, a spokeswoman for Nissan, Azusa Momose refused to comment when she was approached by Reuters.

Some reports also suggest that the arrest of Ghosn could lead to automakers’ spilt up (Nissan and Renault). There was said to be a complete spilt between manufacturers on engineering and manufacturing fronts, in addition to some major changes in the Nissan’s board of directors.

The prosecutor interviewed Ghosn for a book, but according to Reuters, the book is not likely to come out. Ghosn and Gohara met two days back before Nissan’s ex-boss fled Japan. On speaking why he fled Japan, Ghosn, earlier told that he thought there won’t be speedy and fair trials. He was charged for financial misconduct in Japan, including breach of trust and underreporting his income. He was also accused of using company funds for his and family’s gains and transferring personal trading losses to Nissan.
