Next-gen Porsche 718 to go fully electric in the future
KUALA LUMPUR: Porsche 718 will soon go fully electric, confirmed brand’s Chairman of the Executive Board, Oliver Blume. The car is scheduled to arrive in 2025.

Apart from making more EVs, the company also announced investing in premium charging stations together with partners.In the official statement, Blume said, “The Taycan is 100% a Porsche and inspires all kinds of people – existing and new customers, experts, and the trade media. We are stepping up our electric offensive with another model: By the middle of the decade, we want to offer our mid-engine 718 sports car exclusively in an all-electric form.”
By 2030, Porsche is targeting its 50 percent sales from electric models with “the share of all new vehicles with an all-electric drive should be more than 80%”.
The luxury automaker announced its future EV plans after revealing its 2021 sales performance. The company sold 301,915 units globally making it the first time it surpassed the 300k mark in its sales history.
The biggest contributor in its sales pack was Macan at 88,362 units, followed by Cayenne at 83,071 units. The Taycan sold a total of 41,298 units which is more than double last year's numbers. As for the Porsche 911, it also created a new sales record by delivering 38,464 units.
Furthermore, the brand generated an operating profit of 5.3 billion Euros which is a 27 percent hike over the previous year's figure. Thus making it the most profitable car brand in the world with 16 percent operating return on sales.
Apart from making more EVs, the company also announced investing in premium charging stations together with partners along with its very own exclusive charging infrastructure for Porsche owners.
The company said, “Further extensive investments are flowing into core technologies such as battery systems and module production. In the newly founded Cellforce Group, high-performance battery cells are being developed and produced that are expected to be ready for series production by 2024.”
