Next-gen Hyundai i30 update revealed
KUALA LUMPUR: Soon after the teaser images of Hyundai i30 broke out a few days back, now the South Korean manufacturer has revealed fresh details about the car. The new Hyundai i30 is scheduled to debut at the Geneva Motor Show next month.
New updates reveal all three i30 body styles to be offered in Europe: hatch, fastback, and wagon. Hyundai is also updating its i30 N Line range. For the first time, the company’s sporty-looking trim level will be available on the new i30 Wagon, starting in summer 2020. The i30 N-inspired design features will continue to be available on the i30 hatchback and fastback models. No detailing on that has been revealed as of now.
Updated images reveal major styling changes to the front and rear fascia. The front of the new i30 is characterized by a wider-looking and modern posture. The wider grille features an accentuated 3D pattern that emphasize on a dynamic look. The lower grills are given pointy and sharper ends like the lights. It also gets new slimmer headlamps with optional multifaceted reflector (MFR) LED technology and new V-shaped signature LED daytime running lights (DRL). The rear diffuser area has been expanded to include the license plate area, and the lower rear lights have been moved down to the edges of said area. This helps make the back of the car look boxier.
Coming to the interior aesthetics of the car, slight modifications have been done to the styling, which however looks very substantive. There is new interior tech, including a 7.0-inch digital instrument cluster and larger 10.25-inch touchscreen, wireless phone charging, and a variety of Hyundai's connected-car functions. Dashboard, doors and center console remain unchanged.
New safety kit includes - Lane Following Assist, Rear Collision-Avoidance Assist and Leading Vehicle Departure Alert, extending the existing tally of safety kit.
For its European markets that have stringent norms against emissions, Hyundai offers different engines there compared to here. The base drivetrain for the MY20 i30 is a 1.5-litre petrol with 81kW and a six-speed manual (6MT) gearbox.
The new i30 comes in three new exterior colors: Dark Night, Silky Bronze, and Sunset Red. In addition, six existing colors will continue to be available: Polar White, Phantom Black, Engine Red, Stellar Blue, Platinum Silver, and Olivine Grey.
After its public debut this summer, the i30 will go on sale in international markets, with Europe receiving hatchback, wagon and fastback varieties. For now, we can only anticipate which varieties would be available for sale in Malaysian markets.
