Next-gen Ford Ranger Raptor arrived in Malaysia, check full details

The wait is over! The ultimate off-road American beast, the all-new next-gen Ford Ranger Raptor, has finally launched in Malaysia. Developed by Ford Performance, the latest pickup truck is more powerful and faster than its predecessor and it’s the toughest Ranger Ford has ever made. Not only that, but the revamped truck also looks incredible and packs new features.

2022 Ford Ranger Raptor price

Sime Darby Auto Connexion offers the new Ranger Raptor at a price of RM 259,888 (on-the-road without insurance). Included in the price is a five-year/160,000km warranty (whichever comes earlier). A two-year extended warranty can also be opted with PremiumCare which offers several kinds of additional coverages.

The performance-focused pickup is almost RM 91k dearer than the top-spec Ranger WildTrak, priced at RM168,888.

2022 Ford Ranger Raptor engine and performance 

What comes as the most exciting for enthusiasts is the mighty V6 engine under the bonnet. Yes, the 2022 Ranger Raptor is powered by a 3.0-litre twin-turbo petrol V6 engine replacing the older 213 PS/ 500 Nm 2.0-litre EcoBlue twin-turbo diesel engine. The new mill kicks out a maximum power output of 397 PS at 5,650 rpm and a peak torque of 583 Nm at 3,500 rpm, making the latest version the most powerful Ranger ever. 

The power is sent to all four wheels via a 10-speed automatic transmission mated to a new full-time AWD system. According to the automaker, the new pickup is almost twice as fast as the first-gen Ranger Raptor.

Along with the new drivetrain, the pickup also benefits from the new Baja riding mode. Exclusive to the Raptor, this new mode comes with an active exhaust system selector, making it the loudest and naughtiest ever. It also has an anti-lag system, which enables quicker acceleration by keeping turbochargers spinning for up to three seconds after the driver releases the throttle.

For enhanced ride comfort and handling, the pickup's chassis and suspension setup also get a number of upgrades. Some of the key changes are -

• FOX 2.5-inch Live Valve Internal Bypass shock absorbers tuned by Ford Performance, which is the most sophisticated ever on a Ranger Raptor. These are equipped with Teflon-infused oil reducing friction by almost 50% compared to the predecessor
• FOX Bottom-Out Control with the stiffened rear dampers improving the vehicle’s stability while preventing it from squatting under hard acceleration
• Chassis gets unique mounts and reinforcements along with unique frames for the bumper, shock tower, and rear shock bracket

When it comes to exterior design, the pickup’s bold and aggressive stance matches its underlying performance. Among the main highlights are an aggressive front grille incorporating bold F-O-R-D lettering, C-clamp LED daytime running lights paired with Matrix LED headlights, flared wheel arches, cast aluminium side steps, Ford Performance scuff plates, exclusive bumpers, and 17-inch alloy wheels shod with BFGoodrich all-terrain KO2 tyres.

Ford offers the new Raptor in five hues comprising a new signature Code Orange shade. Other choices are Absolute Black, Blue Lightning, Arctic White, and Conquer Grey.
