The next-gen Ford Ranger is expected to hit the European market in late 2022.On the exterior, the changes start right from the front grille which is now larger and more prominent and merges seamlessly with new C-shaped headlights. The latter comes with Matrix LED technology and stylish DRLs.
The truck also gets a sculpted hood and muscular bodywork, however, the pronounced shoulder line continues to be the same. Included in the rear fascia cosmetic tweaks are unique tail lights, a revised tailgate, a prominent Ranger badge, and a new rear bumper with side steps. Overall, the bolder design of the truck is inspired by the newly-introduced Maverick and F-150 pickup trucks.
If we talk about the dimensions, the pickup now has a 50 mm wider track and a 50 mm longer wheelbase. It also benefits from a new bed liner and extra cargo tie-down points. “Cargo area is built to help customers do more, with increased functionality and better access,” says Ford.
A new zone lighting system providing 360 degrees of illumination at night will also be there for late-night work or camping.
Inside, the hi-tech interior of the 2022 Ford Ranger gets a digital instrument cluster and a portrait-style 10.1- or 12-inch SYNC4 infotainment system. The latter also features an off-road screen that lets the driver monitor the steering angle, driveline, roll angles, etc. Also, available on the updated truck is an integrated modem offering modern connectivity options. Cosmetic tweaks comprise a new dash, restyled AC vents and central console, and higher quality fit and finish.
Riding on an upgraded chassis, the new Ranger powertrain options include three turbodiesels units viz. 3.0-litre V6 and a 2.0-litre four-cylinder with one or two turbochargers. The gasoline option is a 2.3-litre EcoBoost four-cylinder. The available gearbox choices will include a six-speed manual, six-speed auto, and an updated ten-speed auto.
Ford also upgraded the truck’s suspension system for “excellent ride and handling, whether riding with passengers, fully loaded with cargo, or towing.”
“With Ranger, we’ve had a big extended family for decades,” said Jim Farley, president, and chief executive officer, Ford Motor Company. “This truck has always been a trusted partner to small business owners, farmers, families, adventurers, commercial fleets and so many more in more than 180 markets around the world. And with the new Ranger, this is our moment to deliver. Not just a product our customers will love, but an always-on experience that will help us build strong and lasting relationships with them. This is the midsize truck people will want to own and experience,” he added.
The order books for the next-gen Ford Ranger will open for European customers in late 2022 with deliveries scheduled to commence in early 2023. No info is available as to when it will launch in Malaysia at this point.
