New Peugeot 2008: In Pictures
It was only a while back that Peugeot Malaysia launched the second-generation 2008 in the local market. Automaker’s sole distributor, Bermaz Auto Alliance (BAASB) is offering the SUV with a single variant option, Allure.
In Malaysia, Peugeot 2008 is available as a locally assembled unit, built at the Stellantis manufacturing facility in Gurun, Kedah. It thus benefits from full sales tax exemption (set to come to an end on June 30, 2022)
Before we start discussing Peugeot’s new B-segment SUV in detail via pictures, let’s first run some numbers. BAASB retails the new Peugeot 2008 Allure for RM 126,753, on-the-road without insurance. The amount, however, includes a 100,000 km manufacturer warranty and a three-year/60,000 km free service maintenance package.
Adding to the SUV’s credibility is its 20,000 km of testing rounds in Malaysia, explaining the numerous camouflaged units seen on the road in the past few months.
Time to look at the 2022 Peugeot 2008 from behind the lenses -
The new Peugeot 2008 showcases an exhilarating design. Its fluid & robust silhouette and raised ground clearance are put in place keeping today’s lifestyle in mind. The strong lines and sculpted side panels create a sharp and aggressive image.
At the front, the bold and assertive details capture attention. For instance, the brand’s signature 3-claw design with full-LED lighting technology at front and back, perfect grille frame, twin chrome exhaust system, gloss black rear bumper diffuser, together create a sporty aura.
It’s not all about style, but utility as well. As can be seen, the 2008 SUV comes with a low sill and wide opening. And the boot space with the 60:40 folding ratio rear seat offers functional boot space.
The new Peugeot 2008 benefits from a unique 3D i-Cockpit cluster that presents information in staggered layers creating a 3D effect and can be customized as per the driver’s needs. The 10-inch 3D digital instrument panel for safety reasons is positioned high so it is superimposed on the road. Thus allowing the driver to monitor the panel without looking away from the road. Peugeot also offers several colourful and crisp graphics that can be adapted to display a variety of display modes. Also, important information like speed and safety warnings are projected in hologram form to attract attention.
At the centre of the dashboard sits a 7-inch infotainment display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto wireless support, mirroring users core apps on the touchscreen. Feeding your device is a USB charging port located at the centre console. Also, part of the kit is Bluetooth hands-free phone and audio capability, six audio speakers, and 180-degree reverse camera with distance with width guidelines.
Present below the infotainment system are air-con vents that are underlined by eye-catching piano-style toggle switches to access the main functions of the car.
The SUV features comfortable seats with a dynamic design, allowing you sit back and relax. Speaking of which, the front seats (driver and passenger) benefit from 6-way manual adjustment.
The Peugeot 2008 will adapt as per the driver’s wish and road conditions with the help of three driving modes. They are -
Eco: This mode promotes driving range and a smooth drive
Normal: Opt this one for optimum comfort for everyday use
Sport: This mode gives priority to performance and driving sensations with maximum power and torque output
This one above is the unit that powers the new Peugeot 2008. It is the brand’s award-winning PureTech 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine offering a maximum power output of 130 hp at 5,500 rpm along with a peak torque of 230 Nm at 1,750 rpm, thus making it one of the most powerful in its class. The company claims the SUV offers a fuel economy of 22.22 kmpl.
The power is sent to the front wheels via a 6-speed automatic (AT6 III) gearbox.
The 2008 Allure benefits from a range of impressive standard kit that includes - a 17-inch ‘Salamanca’ alloy wheels wrapped in 215/60 profile tyres, automatic LED headlight with matching DRLs, LED tail lights, rain-sensing wipers, bulb-type rear fog lamps, roof rail, 12 parking sensors split equally front and rear.
