New Mitsubishi Triton Takes On The 25th Borneo Safari International Off-Road Challenge
KUALA LUMPUR: The new Mitsubishi Triton is all set to take on the 25th Borneo Safari International Off-Road Challenge beginning from October 25, 2015. The new Triton will be entering the world's one of the toughest 4X4 expeditions as a Corporate Vehicle with minimal modifications. Announcing the participation, Yang Won-Chul, CEO of Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia, said, “MMM is glad to participate in the Borneo Safari event this year with the all-new Triton Adventure. Borneo Safari is one of Asia’s most gruelling off-road events and MMM is proud to say that the all-new Triton is set to conquer all terrain obstacles with its off-road driving capabilities.”
Fully imported from Thailand, the new Triton will be outfitted with the compulsory equipments including a strong bull bar in front, reinforced rear bumpers, a Warn winch with 9,000-pound pulling capacity, and GT Radial Komodo 35-Inch tyres.

Triton will be piloted by Borneo Safari veterans: Paul Si from Sarawak and Lionel Yew from Selangor. “We are proud to be entrusted by Mitsubishi with this mission, to take on the Borneo Safari in the all-new Triton, which will go in with the absolute minimum of modifications,” said Si, who participated in the 1992 and 2008 events, and since 2012. “Many participants will have done extensive modifications to their vehicles, some because they have encountered problems in previous events and have learned what are the weaknesses that need to be rectified”, he added.
The 25th Borneo Safari will begin from the Sabah Tourism Board building in Jalan Gaya with three hundred participants. The convoy will then move towards Penampang for the opening Prologue Special Stages. A few days later, the participants will be divided into several groups to move toward various camp sites, including Kampung Sungai and Kampung Tingkolod before taking on the hardcore stretches in the Rundum and Lagud Seberang area in the southwest region of Sabah. All groups will reunite in Tenom town before returning to Kota Kinabalu after eight days on the trails.
