New BMW 2 Series Coupe revealed at Goodwood
KUALA LUMPUR: As promised BMW has unveiled the second-gen 2 Series Coupe at the ongoing Goodwood Festival of Speed. The automaker says that the coupe will go on sale in the international markets by early 2022 and initially will be offered in three trims -
- Base variant 220i Coupe
- Mid-level 220d Coupe
- Range-topping M240i xDrive Coupe
New BMW 2 Series Coupe Design
The 2 Series Coupe gets the more conventional grille rather than the massive one seen on its siblings M3 and M4. It also gets a redesigned front bumper with large air vents, new LED headlights with LED DRLs, and revised LED tail lights. The dark gloss black exterior trim all-around the car along with the metallic finishes on the side skirts and rear diffuser makes it look appealing. Part of the standard kit are 18-inch alloy wheels, however, the range-topping M240i stands on 19-inch alloys.
Speaking of the top trim, it also gets a boot-lip spoiler and dual exhaust tips.
New BMW 2 Series Coupe Interior
The second-gen 2 Series Coupe’s cabin is as inviting as its exterior stance. The highlighting features, however, is the massive 12.3-inch touchscreen information display and a 10.25-inch digital instrument panel. Adding to its premium appeal is its Alcantara and leather upholstery mix along with several comfort & convenience features.
New BMW 2 Series Coupe Engine
The base-trim, 2 Series 220i Coupe is powered by a 2.0-litre in-line four-cylinder turbocharged petrol mill that pumps out a maximum power of 184 bhp along with a peak torque of 300 Nm.
On the performance front, this variant completes the century sprint in 7.5 seconds and attains a top speed of 236 kmph.
The mid-level variant, on the other hand, is fueled by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel mill which is paired to a 48V mild-hybrid system. Together they make 190 hp of power and 400 Nm
of torque. The 220d accelerates from 0 to 100 kmph in 6.9 seconds and has a top speed of 237 kmph.
Coming to the range-topping M240i variant, it sources power from a 3.0-litre six-cylinder turbocharged petrol unit that churns out 369 hp and 500 Nm of torque. It claims a 0 to 100 kmph time of 4.3 seconds and a top speed of 250 kmph. It also gets the automaker’s all-wheel-drive system.
All three variants get the same transmission system, an 8-speed Steptronic automatic unit.
