Say hello to the all-new Bentley Continental GT Speed

KUALA LUMPUR: Bentley has planned to go all-electric by the end of this decade, but before that, it seems to show off its highest performance derivatives. And one of those is the all-new Continental GT Speed, which is known to be the “most capable and performance-focused model ever.” 

Under the hood, the Speed incorporates the brand’s 6.0-litre turbocharged W12 engine as the standard Continental GT, but the real catch here is the oomph. Instead of producing 626 horsepower, the re-tuned mill churns out a maximum output of 650 hp, although torque stays the same at 900 Nm. The engine is coupled with an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission sending power to all four wheels. 

All these enable the car to accelerate from standstill to 100 kmph in just 3.6 seconds, on the way to a top speed of 335 kmph. Bentley says that the shifts in the new setup are twice as quick as in the standard model and that’s why it clocks the 100 kmph mark slightly quicker.

Besides the power and speed changes, the new Bentley Continental GT also gets a re-tuned suspension and steering, along with Bentley Dynamic Ride that reduces body roll. The updated electronic all-wheel steering system ensures that all wheels turn in the same direction at high speeds for improved stability, however, at moderate speeds, the front, and rear wheels turn in opposite directions.

In terms of design, this ferocious beast features a dark tinted finishing on the front grille, front bumper intakes as well as side sills. Included in the exterior highlights are 22-inch wheels, 'Speed' badging, "Jeweled" fuel and oil filler caps, and a "12" logo on the front fender vents to indicate W12 engine.

The cabin of the 2022 Bentley Continental GT is highly customizable and boasts a unique two-tone leather and Alcantara treatment. Customers can select from as many as 15 main and 11 secondary leather colours and can also replace the Alcantara with leather if they want. 

The all-new Continental GT Speed is expected to go on sale in select markets around the world later this year.
