More details on the Hyundai Ioniq 6 and Ioniq 7 are out
KUALA LUMPUR: Back in February, Hyundai globally unveiled a battery-electric five-door hatchback called Ioniq 5, which is now set to make its way to the US market. The South Korean automaker recently released details of the US-spec model, and also shared some important information about the next two models of its Ioniq brand, as a pleasant surprise.
The automaker briefed that the upcoming Ioniq 6 sedan will arrive towards the end of this year, while the Ioniq 7 SUV will follow later on in 2024, according to the Carscoops report.
Let’s first talk about the Ioniq 6, it is a Sonata-sized sedan that is said to be a “secondary volume leader” replacing the original Hyundai Ioniq. Showcased as the Prophecy concept in 2020, the electric sedan underpins the Hyundai and Kia modular E-GMP platform that is likely to feature a 73-kWh battery pack and two different powertrains.
The reports suggest the rear-wheel-drive powertrain with a single motor will generate a maximum output of 217 PS, while with a dual-motor AWD setup, the output will increase to 312 PS. Regarding the cruising range, we can expect around 300 miles (483 km) on a single charge.
Moving to the Ioniq 7, this Palisade-sized SUV is likely to offer a choice of six- or seven-seating layouts. Under the bonnet, it is expected to get the same all-wheel-drive setup with a dual-motor powertrain generating 312 PS of power. It will use a 100-kWh battery pack with a target range of more than 300 miles.
Well, if we talk about the whole Ioniq range, Hyundai confirmed a few things when it launched the sub-brand last year. As per that, all Ioniq models will sit on a new platform called the Electric Global Modular architecture, which will allow fast-charging and plentiful driving range.
As for the interior, it stated the cars will feature a "smart living space" with highly adjustable seats, wireless connectivity, along with some unique features, such is the case with the Ioniq 5. Besides a striking design inside and out, it gets innovative styling with eco-friendly materials at many touchpoints in the cabin.
In the US, the Ioniq 5 sales will begin this fall with an expected starting price of around $37,000 (RM 153,354).
