More details about Hyundai Ioniq 5 are out

KUALA LUMPUR: One can that has occupied the most headlines in the past few years in the Hyundai’s upcoming pure-electric vehicle, the Ioniq 5. We have seen the EV in parts, in the form of teaser images and spy shots, and are desperately waiting to meet it in person. The Ioniq 5 is said to make a global debut in February, and we have only limited information about it in hand. Like the Ioniq 5 will be the brand’s first model to sit on the Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP). Also, the automaker is planning to introduce the Ioniq 6 and Ioniq 7 in the future.

However, the US automobile portal, Motor1.com has in hand an anonymous tip about the Hyundai EV. However, the authenticity of the image is yet to be confirmed by the website which at the moment is taking the information with a hint of optimism (we too).

So, what does the said Motor1.com tip related to Ioniq 5 tell us? Well, as per the website, it received three images - one showing the brand's previous fuel cell vehicles, another one the company’s European lineup, and the last one consists of Ioniq 5 front and rear images along with some specifications.

It’s the tip with the images and specifications that is gearing all the attention. Proving its authenticity to some level is the car image that looks somewhat similar to the official teaser shared by the automaker. The leaked image spilled following information about the upcoming Ioniq 5 EV -

  • Range of up to 510 km following the WLTP
  • Rear- and all-wheel drive powertrain configuration
  • Maximum power output of 310 ho
  • It will support up to 232 kW of DC fast charging
  • It’ll 18 minutes to charge 80 percent
  • Bi-directional charging with up to 3.5 kW of Vehicle to Load support

Further, the Ioniq 5’s Electric-Global Modular Platform supports multi-charging system which supports 400-volt and 800-volt DC charging along with 240-volt AC charging.

Also, the leaked image revealed information about Hyundai's upcoming EV dimension and cabin features. For instance, its wheelbase will stretch up to 3000 mm that not only assure a spacious cabin but a big boot as well. Speaking of which, the Ioniq 5 will have a 600-litre boot space. On the specification front, if we believe the tip, the Ioniq 5 will come along with a 12.3-inch digital display and a 44-inch head-up display with augmented reality.

Hyundai Ioniq 5 like its contemporaries will feature Level 2 autonomous driving technology.

So, what are your thoughts on the Ioniq 5? Impressive it is, right. However, it is to be noted that all the information provided is based on a tip received by motor1.com and its authenticity is not confirmed.
