The teaser unveils the pickup’s overall profile with front lighting signature, boxy wheel arches, and fender extensions. It is expected to arrive sometime this year.
While Mitsubishi remained tight-lipped about the 2024 Triton specifications, the reports suggest that the upcoming iteration will be based on the Nissan Navara’s ladder-frame chassis and will be a larger vehicle inside and out.
Alongside the turbo diesel powertrain, the pickup is also likely to be offered with a fully electric mill as the teaser depicts an unnamed model with a ‘Pickup BEV’ label. If it turns out to be true, the Triton EV would stand neck to neck against the road-ready version of the Toyota Hilux Rev BEV concept introduced a few months ago.
The automaker also confirmed that out of these 16 upcoming models, nine will have some sort of electrification, four of which will be pure BEVs.
As a part of its ‘Challenge 2025’ business plan, Mitsubishi aims to achieve a sales volume of 1.1 million units and an operating profit of 220 billion yen (approximately equal to RM 7.37 billion) in 2025.
To support these objectives, it will increase the investment in research and development and capital expenditure by roughly 30% over the next six years, up to 2028. By 2030, the company will also invest a total of 210 billion yen (approx RM 7 billion) to procure 15GWh of battery procurement and bolster linking with Alliance (mutually complementary OEM products, etc.)
