Mercedes-Benz Prices Remain Unchanged in Malaysia, Hybrid Cars Enjoys Tax Relief
Kuala Lumpur: Mercedes-Benz Malaysia (MBM) has confirmed that the prices for all of its Models except the Mercedes-Benz S400h L will remain unchanged, this year. Along with it, the locally assembled hybrid cars namely Mercedes-Benz S400L Hybrid and E300 BlueTec hybrid will continue enjoying the benefits from the import duty and excise tax exemptions. However, the 3.5 litre S-class variant receives a price tag of RM598,888 with a hike of RM15,000 while 2.2 liter BlueTec variant maintains its RM338,888 price (both OTR prices without insurance). Earlier in 2015, the company has sold more than 2000 units of E300 BlueTEC Hybrid in 2015, which means the lower capacity hybrid models gaining popularity in the Malaysian market.
In a Statement, Mark Raine, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia vice-president of passenger cars sales and marketing stated, “We will not increase prices across the board at the start of 2016 but will continue to monitor all influencing factors”.
According to 2014 National Automotive Policy (NAP 2014), the S-class hybrid model obtained full duty exemptions in Malaysia from May 2014 to 31st December 2015. Previously, the duty reliefs are provided to completely built-up (CBU) hybrid cars having engine displacement up to 2.0 litres. Although, the new NAP 2014 gives duty reliefs for locally assembled hybrid vehicles with any engine capacity.
Dr Claus Weidner, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia president and CEO said, “We are delighted to have been granted an extension on duty exemptions and can continue to offer our discerning Malaysian customers with leading hybrid and energy-efficient vehicles (EEVs) at attractive prices”.
The German auto manufacturer will be unveiling their sales figure for 2015 on Friday. As the hybrid vehicles have made a significant value in the market, various auto manufacturers have geared up to launch new cars in the hybrid segment. In order to explore and establish its presence in Hybrid cars market in Malaysia, Mercedes-Benz has taken significant measures. In addition, the brand is also geared up for the launch of Mercedes-Benz GLC and Mercedes-Benz GLE in January 2016 to improve its Crossover line-up. Currently, BMW and Lexus are the market leaders in the hybrid luxury car segments and Mercedes is putting its efforts to compete in the best possible manner.
