Mercedes Benz adds a coupe to its C-Class family
Kuala Lumpur: Mercedes-Benz is all set to add a Coupe to its C-class family, which would make an arrival in December 2015. Prepared for a battle against its rivals Audi A5 and BMW 4 series, this car would be offered with a wide range of engines, unlike its first generation which was originally introduced in 2011. Following the fifth-generation C-class saloon, C-class estate models and upcoming C-class Cabriolet it would further expand the C-class lineup.
It is believed to be 60 mm longer than its predecessor between the firewall and front axle alone. It also features the traditional S-class coupe designing that includes flared wheel arches, low-slung roofline and dual trapezoidal exhaust pipes at the back. The suspension is designed 15 mm lower than that of the saloon to give it a sporty proposition. Apart from the standard 17-inch wheels, an option of 18-inch AMR light-alloy wheels is also provided along with sportier bumper and sills and a diamond radiator grille. This coupe stands 4781 mm long, 1427 mm tall along with a wheelbase of 2920 mm and a 0.26 coefficient of drag. Regarding the interiors, it has got shell-style front seats with integrated headrests mounted 20mm lower than the traditional C-Class saloon. Further, it is designed with Artico man-made leather and Dinamica in black micro fibre along with multi-function flat-bottom sports steering wheel and AMG sports pedals.
Talking about the engines, it would be integrated with a base 1.6-litre four-cylinder petrol engine with 154 bhp in entry level C180 and a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine with 181 bhp in C200, 207 bhp in C250 and 241 bhp in C300. Further, a 2.1-litre four-cylinder turbo diesel engine would also be provided with either 165 bhp in C220d or 200 bhp in C250d. These choices of four petrol and two diesel engines would be equipped with Eco start/stop function which would make it 27% more fuel-efficient than before. The transmission choices include a six-speed manual transmission or optional seven or nine-speed automatic transmission. Alongside the standard rear-wheel drive, it would also be made available with an optional 4Matic four-wheel drive.
