Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe launched, starts at RM1.1 million

KUALA LUMPUR: Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe has been launched in Malaysia in three variants, two with 3.0-litre engine, the GT53 4 Matic+ and the GT43 4Matic+ while one with the 4.0-litre V8 M178 engine, the range-topping AMG GT63 S. Based on the Mercedes-Benz’s MRA platform, the Gran Turismo comes with more practical features in form of two rear seats and extra doors.

AMG GT 4-Door Coupe

The power mill fitted inside the GT63 S is from the AMG GT R; Output of whose has been levelled up in the two twin-scroll turbo unit. The engine produces a max power of 639 PS at 5,500 and 6,500 rpm and a peak torque of 900 Nm at 2,500-4,500 rpm, mated to a 9-speed AMG Speedshift MCT automatic transmission. It also comes with a cylinder deactivation system that helps in reduced fuel consumption. The AMG GT63 S sprints from 0 to 100 kmph in just 3.2 seconds and tops at 315 kmph.

AMG GT43 S

The engine inside the hood of AMG GT43 churns out 367 PS of power at 5,500-6,100 rpm and 500 Nm of torque at 1,800-4,500 rpm. It can travel from nought to 100 kmph in 4.9 seconds before attaining its top speed of 270 kmph. The AMG GT53, on the other hand, produces 435 PS of power at 6,100 rpm and 520 Nm of torque at 1,800-5,800 rpm. It tops at 285 kmph and travels to 100 kmph in 4.5 seconds.

Mercedes AMG GT63 S

The AMG GT63 S gets Dynamic Plus Package as standard with rear-axle limited-slip differential. The all-wheel-drive system fitted as the part of the AMG Performance kit gets a Drift mode that converts it into a purely rear-wheel drive vehicle. The active rear-wheel steering is present to assist agility of the car up to the speed of 100 kmph.

On the feature front, it gets multibeam LED headlights with adaptive high-beam assist plus, 21-inch AMG forged wheels, AMG high-performance brakes with big compound discs and six-piston calipers coloured in yellow at the front and at the back it has single-piston calipers. There are additional packages like AMG exterior carbon-fibre package, a Night package, and an AMG Aerodynamics package.

The features inside the cabin include AMG matte carbon-fibre trim, Nappa leather upholstery, and AMG performance seats. Other bits include AMG performance steering with Touch Control and illuminated AMG door scuff plates. The 12.3-inch HD display comes with three theme options - Classic, Sport, and Supersport.

On the entertainment front, it gets a COMAND infotainment system with Burmester surround sound system, Apple CarPlay support, and a new touchpad. Additionally, there are head-up display, a sliding roof and wireless charging options at the front as well as at the back. You’ll also find Air Balance Package and Energising Comfort Control system.

Moreover, the circular switchgear on the two-door GT has been ditched for the new rectangular ones. At the rear part of the cabin, you get a console placed in the centre of the seats. The boot space comes with a volume of 395 litres which can be expanded to 1,324 litres with rear seats folded down.

The outside of the car looks inspired by its two-door sibling. At the front, it gets the Panamerica grille and a Jet Wing. The slim taillights are also similar to the afore-mentioned. The hood is shorter and the cabin is bigger than before. The rear is benefitted from the spoiler and new exhaust tips made in form of a trapezoid.

The driver assistance pack includes steering assist, Distronic active distance assist, a 360-degree camera, an Easy-Pack tailgate, Keyless-Go hands-free access, and Parktronic. The new AMG Track Pace feature records over 80 vehicle-specific data including the time on the racetrack which it displays only after thorough analysis.

As for the pricing, the the AMG GT43 4Matic+ gets a price of RM1,098,888, the AMG GT 53 4Matic+ is available at RM1,298,888 and the AMG GT63 S at RM1,798,888. All prices are on-road without insurance. Addition of features like high-class seats will add to the final price.
