Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe gets updates for 2022
KUALA LUMPUR: After several spy shots, Mercedes-AMG finally pulled the wraps off the 2022 AMG GT four-door coupe. The new model does not get the full makeover rather just nips and tucks that make it more appealing than its predecessor. Included in the upgrades are more exterior options, suspension tweaks, flexible seating layout, and updated standard tech. Let’s know them in detail.
On the exterior, the new GT 4-Door Coupe gets subtle revisions in the form of new 20-inch light-alloy wheels and 21-inch forged wheels, new red brake calipers, and three new colors - Starling Blue Metallic, Manufaktur Starling Blue Magno, and Manufaktur Cashmere White Magno. Also on offer is a new AMG Night Package II that boasts a dark chrome grille and blacked-out badges.
Inside, the facelifted model gets a new AMG Performance steering wheel and a new “Widescreen Cockpit” digital instrument panel as standard. Another important upgrade is the optional three-seat rear bench that brings the total seating space to five people. The bench has the capability of folding down to accommodate larger items when needed. Rounding out the interior changes are new upholstery combinations and new colour options, including Yacht Blue scheme and Deep White.
For more interior comfort, Mercedes-AMG brings on board a re-tuned AMG Ride Control+ suspension, exclusively for the V8 models. The new system does a better job of isolating passengers from poor surfaces, says the automaker.
Philipp Schiemer, CEO of Mercedes-AMG GmbH, said, “We constantly maintain our AMG GT 4-Door Coupé at an outstanding technical level. With the current update and the exclusive edition, we are reaching out to the target groups that place the greatest value on individuality and an expressive lifestyle. In this way, we continue to develop our profile as a ‘Performance Luxury’ brand and go on to substantiate this with tailor-made products and options.”
Under the bonnet, the 2022 Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door is powered by the ongoing 3.0-litre turbocharged inline-six unit generating maximum power of 367 PS and a peak torque of 500 Nm. The engine is paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission and an AWD system. Also on offer is a differently tuned engine kicking out 435 PS and 520 Nm. “We will soon be presenting our first E PERFORMANCE hybrids in this model, thereby driving forward the electrification of the powertrain,” added Schiemer.
The all-new Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe is likely to hit the U.S. dealerships later this year.
