Meet Toyota’s new affordable pickup truck, the Hilux Champ
KUALA LUMPUR: The road-ready version of the Toyota IMV 0 (Innovative International Multi-purpose Vehicle 0) pickup concept, which was previewed at the Japan Mobility Show 2023, made its world premiere in Thailand yesterday. As reported earlier, the production model is known as the Hilux Champ.

Toyota Thailand offers the new Hilux Champ in 11 customised models that can be utilised for both business and private use. A total of 8 eights grades are available with two wheelbase types (short and long), three engine setups, and an unequipped type with a flat deck.The bookings for the new Toyota Hilux Champ are now underway in the Thai market at a price ranging from THB 459,000 (RM 61,411) to THB 577,000 (RM 77,198). This price range makes the new model Toyota’s low-cost commercial vehicle, giving buyers an alternative to the full-size Hilux.
“As the automotive industry continues to evolve and customer needs diversify, the lifestyles of Thai customers also continue to change. For the IMV series, Toyota decided to return to its origins to create an IMV pickup truck that is truly affordable and meets the needs of customers. Local engineers led the development of the IMV 0 after thoroughly researching customer lifestyles,” says Toyota.
The new Hilux Champ is offered in 11 customised models that can be utilised for both business and private use. A total of 8 grades are available with two wheelbase types (short and long), three engine setups, and an unequipped type with a flat deck.
The SWB model measures 4970 mm in length and spans a wheelbase of 2750 mm, while the LWB iteration is 5300 mm long and measures 3085 mm between the axles. The width and height are 1785 mm and 1735 mm, respectively. The pickup tips the scales at 2,790 kg and has a minimum turning radius of 5.4 m.
The powertrain choices include - 2.0-litre gasoline, 2.7-litre gasoline, and 2.4-litre diesel engine. As for transmission, two available choices are - 5MT and 6AT.
The deck of the truck is equipped with bolt holes at various locations that facilitate easy customisation. Furthermore, the automaker offers information on more than 100 accessory manufacturers so that each customer can enjoy personalised customization. Toyota will produce the Hilux Champ at the Samrong Plant in Thailand.
