Meet the Leapmotor B10: A tech-savvy, budget-friendly Chinese EV

KUALA LUMPUR: Stellantis-backed Leapmotor pulled the wraps off its new electric SUV, the B10, at the recently concluded 2024 Paris Motor Show. Marking a significant milestone in the brand’s international expansion, the Leapmotor B10 is the brand’s first global C-segment SUV, positioned between the Leapmotor C10 and Leapmotor T03.

With the C10 already introduced to the Malaysian market and the T03 expected to follow soon, the Leapmotor B10 is likely to hit the local roads sometime next year. Here, we bring the key highlights of the latest Leapmotor EV -

LEAP 3.5 architecture

The new Leapmotor B10 underpins the innovative LEAP 3.5 architecture, a highly integrated platform that sets the foundation for advanced features and performance. It supports cutting-edge technologies such as advanced driver assistance systems and a customizable digital cockpit promising a seamless driving experience.

Sleek C-SUV design

The B10 is a sleek C-SUV that perfectly balances style and performance with eco-friendly technology. The modern exterior of the EV features clean lines and a dynamic silhouette, appealing to younger customers. 

The front profile boasts an enclosed grille flanked by split headlight clusters and LED daytime running lights. The bottom of the front fender is equipped with a large rectangular air intake, playing a crucial role in engine cooling and overall performance. 

The EV features relatively short front and rear overhangs. The rear fascia also incorporates a unique set of through-tail lights that are both functional and visually striking. 

One of the stand-out design elements is concealed door handles, which are designed to retract into the body of the vehicle when not in use, helping to reduce wind resistance. 

Smart connectivity and advanced technology

Leapmotor has packed the electric SUV with smart connectivity features for an enhanced driving experience. It features an intuitive and customisable digital cockpit, allowing drivers to access a range of information and entertainment options easily. 

The B10 is the first of many upcoming Leapmotor models that will be launched as part of the brand’s B-series. The automaker confirmed that the higher-end models of the lineup will come equipped with lidar and AI intelligent driving chips, enhancing the vehicle's autonomous capabilities. 

Competitive pricing 

The Leapmotor B10 will be priced between CNY 100,000 (approx RM 60k) and CNY 150,000 (approx RM 90k) in China. With this affordable price tag, the Chinese EV targets those customers who are seeking an eco-friendly vehicle without breaking the bank.

A global model

The B10 is a crucial part of the company's broader strategy for global expansion as it paves the way for further international growth and market presence. It highlights the brand’s goal of becoming a key player in the global electric vehicle market. 

Leapmotor is a young Chinese startup that signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Stellantis last year to form Leapmotor International JV.
