MCO second phase started; limits the travel for essentials to 10 km radius

KUALA LUMPUR: Amid this world-wide coronavirus outbreak, all the national governments are putting restrictions on the people to control the spread. In Malaysia, Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin has announced the 2020 Movement Control Order on March 18. As per the MCO, people can move out to buy the essential things. But now, a further restriction on this movement has been imposed. According to the new rule, you can step up out of your home for necessities, but your travel is restricted to a 10 km radius.

MCO regulations

In the previous federal gazette issued on March 18, the people were advised to limit their travel. It was under Prevention And Control of Infectious Diseases Regulations 2020, which was in effect till March 31. Now, it has been replaced by a revised gazette.

The new gazette comes as a second phase of the order with more strict regulations. Though the travel limits to a 10 km area, you are only allowed to go to the places which are nearest to your location.

The revised gazette also confined the list of essential services, which include ten most needed things. The list covers water, food, energy, communications and internet, banking and finance, security and defense, waste and public cleansing management, e-commerce and logistics. Moreover, the operating hours of restaurants, supermarkets, public transport, food delivery are also curtailed.

MCO regulations

The gazette also emphasized the strict enforcement of one person one vehicle rule in which not more than one person is allowed in the vehicle. However, if there is any medical emergency or any other necessary reason, the relaxation can be provided after explaining the details to the cops.

Furthermore, the persons who are on official duties pertaining to any essential service are required to get an authorization letter from their employer and have to show while traveling.

The phase two of MCO started yesterday. It will continue till the lockdown lifts.
