McLaren reveals its new supercar, the 750S

KUALA LUMPUR: A new supercar has entered the global auto arena. Called the McLaren 750S, it is an interesting take by the British carmaker in the segment.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • What powers the McLaren 750S?

Powering the supercar is a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 petrol engine making 739 hp and 800 Nm of torque.
  • How fast is the new McLaren 750S?

The supercar completes a century sprint in just 2.8 seconds with the Spider trim taking just 0.1 sec more.
  • Essentially an upgrade of the McLaren 720s, the new supercar has a lot to offer both on the feature and performance front.

McLaren Automotive CEO, Michael Leiters said, “When you have a car recognised by so many drivers as a benchmark, to do something even better you have to examine every detail and really push hard for improvements that raise the bar again. This is what we have done with the new 750S and the lightweight, V8 engine performance and outstanding dynamic abilities combine to deliver a supercar driving experience that hits new heights, with truly exhilarating levels of emotional connection.”

    McLaren 750S details

Let us discuss the all-new McLaren 750S in detail -

    Exterior

The McLaren 570S features a striking design language that includes -

    • A new lower nose design
    • An extended front splitter
    • New front and rear bumpers
    • A narrower eye socket intake
    • New rear wheel-arch vents
    • A lengthened carbon fiber active rear wing

The car also gets a new vehicle-lift system which operates via a single button and is over twice as fast as the one found in the 720S. Also present is the optional electrochromic glass that is added to the car’s Retractable Hard Top and allows additional light into the cabin.

    Cabin

The sporty interior of the McLaren 750S is primarily driver-focused with optional carbon fiber seats, a new column-mounted instrument display with switches to control the car’s Active Dynamic settings. Other inclusions are -

    • A Bower & Wilkins audio system
    • Apple CarPlay
    • USB-C and USB-A ports to fast charge devices

    Powertrain & Performance

Powering the supercar is a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 petrol engine making 739 hp and 800 Nm of torque. The drive is sent to the wheels via a 7-speed gearbox with revised ratios.

In addition to the enhanced engine performance, the car also benefits from weight reduction which adds to its performance.

    McLaren 750S performance

The McLaren 750S is significantly lighter (30 kg) than the 720S which allows the car to go faster. Marked as the brand’s lightest production car at 1277 kg, it features a carbon fiber monocoque construction. As for the hardtop convertible Spider model, it gets a carbon fiber upper structure and a composite RHT.

Another interesting bit is the car’s 10-spoke ultra-lightweight forged alloy wheels which come as standard and are the lightest wheel ever fitted on a series-production supercar.

The supercar completes a century sprint in just 2.8 seconds with the Spider trim taking just 0.1 sec more.

    Braking & Handling

Ensuring better handling is McLaren’s new-gen linked-hydraulic suspension system called the PCC III. It features revised geometry, bespoke accumulator tuning, and new lightweight springs. Other notable inclusions are Mclaren P1-inspired center-exit exhaust and McLaren Variable Drift Control (VDC).

The car also comes equipped with a new McLaren Control Launcher (MCL) that allows the driver to store a favorite combination of powertrain, aero, transmission, and handling settings.
