McLaren Kuala Lumpur officially previews 600LT Coupe
KUALA LUMPUR: The brand-new McLaren 600LT Coupe has been officially previewed at an event by McLaren Kuala Lumpur. In the Woking’s Sports Series range, the coupe is the most extreme model. It carries a starting price tag of RM 998,000.
In the McLaren 600LT, the “LT” stands for the “Longtail” designation, which is presented to the F1 GTR race car’s lengthened version. However, the 600LT’s rear profile does not tell the same story as the GTR as it does not have a stretched bodywork.
The new fixed rear spoiler, along with the massive rear diffuser, extended front splitter, and flat floor help create 100 kg of downforce at 250 kmph. All of the above, along with the company’s own MonoCell II monocoque chassis, are made of carbon fibre. The lightest spec model weighs 1,247 kg.
The McLaren Coupe comes with the manufacturer’s own 3.8-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine, which is capable of churning out up to 600 PS of power at 7,500 rpm and the peak torque of 620 Nm between 5,500 and 6,500 rpm. The engine is further assisted by a distinctive top-exit exhaust system to reduce the back pressure and a retuned ECU.
The 600LT Coupe is capable of speeding up from 0 to 100 kmph in just 2.9 seconds, and the 200 kmph mark comes in just 8.2 seconds. The maximum speed of the coupe is 328 kmph. The power is sent to the rear wheels via a seven-speed dual clutch transmission.
The initial nine-car allocation of McLaren Malaysia has already been sold out, and the automaker is planning to bring more. However, the production period is limited to nine months. The new Glenmarie showroom, which hosted the preview, is located near the Temasya Industrial Park’s existing service centre.
