McLaren Artura Spider launched in Malaysia - RM3.4mil open-top, 3.0-litre V6 hybrid with 690hp and 720Nm

KUALA LUMPUR:  McLaren Malaysia, officially know as McLaren Kuala Lumpur has officially launched the Artura Spider, marking a significant milestone as the brand's first High-Performance Hybrid (HPH) convertible. This new addition to the McLaren lineup is more than just an open-top variant; it introduces a range of upgrades that enhance power, performance, and driver engagement, setting new standards in the supercar segment.

The Artura Spider, along with its coupe counterpart, now designated as the 2025 model year, comes equipped with a more potent powertrain. The 3.0-litre V6 engine, paired with an electric motor, generates a combined output of 690bhp and 720Nm of torque, translating to a formidable 473bhp per tonne at its lightest dry weight of 3,212 lbs. The vehicle’s improved power-to-weight ratio ensures that it remains competitive in a class dominated by performance-driven benchmarks.

Performance figures speak for themselves. The Artura Spider can accelerate from 0 to 100 kmh in just 3.0 seconds, reach 200 kmh in 8.4 seconds, and hit a top speed of 330 kmh. These numbers put the Artura Spider on par with some of the most elite supercars available today, despite its additional convertible mechanisms.

The Artura Spider also benefits from McLaren’s relentless focus on lightweight engineering. The McLaren Carbon Lightweight Architecture (MCLA) forms the backbone of the car, offering a rigid platform even with the roof removed. The retractable hard top (RHT), which adds just 136 lbs to the car’s overall weight, operates in a swift 11 seconds and can be engaged at speeds of up to 50 kmh. This roof design, combined with the new aerothermal management system, optimizes airflow, enhances cooling, and minimizes cabin buffeting.

The hybrid powertrain, an evolution of McLaren’s established technology, has been recalibrated for the 2025 model year. The 94bhp electric motor is housed within the transmission, contributing to the car’s instant torque delivery and improved throttle response. The battery, offering a usable capacity of 7.4 kWh, provides an increased electric-only range of up to 34 kilometres, making the Artura Spider not only powerful but also one of the more efficient supercars in its category.

McLaren has also introduced new features to enhance the driving experience. The revised transmission calibration now offers 25% faster gear shifts, thanks to a new pre-fill feature. Additionally, the vehicle's Proactive Damping Control suspension system has been fine-tuned for quicker response times, increasing driver confidence and agility.

On the braking front, the Artura Spider is equipped with carbon-ceramic discs and lightweight aluminum calipers, designed to withstand high-performance demands while maintaining consistency at high speeds. New brake cooling ducts further enhance thermal management, a critical factor for track enthusiasts.

In terms of design, the Artura Spider retains the distinctive McLaren styling, characterized by its sculpted bodywork and aerodynamic efficiency. The interior is driver-focused, with a minimalist steering wheel free of buttons, and a digital instrument binnacle that adjusts with the steering column to ensure optimal visibility.

The infotainment system now supports Apple CarPlay, wireless charging, and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), including newly available Blindspot Monitoring and Cross-Traffic Detection.
