McLaren Artura preview in Malaysia with RM 1,050,000 price before tax
Handful of buyers ready to take home this McLaren Artura.
McLaren Kuala Lumpur has just unveiled their latest supercar, the Artura and yes, it no longer has a number in its name. McLaren Cars used to come with numbers and not a name, the 765LT, the 620S, the 720S and so on. However, a year ago the McLaren Elva arrived signaling a new naming direction for this British supercar company and now we have the latest model, the McLaren Artura.
As Europe and North America move into emission free motoring but coal power EV charging, McLaren like all other supercar brands, have to start offering hybrid and all electric supercars to suit consumers in these countries.
This is why the Artura is McLaren’s first ever series production hybrid vehicle. It has a great power to weight ratio of 488 PS per tonne despite its hefty battery pack. The Artura’s lightweight frame is superformed aluminum and carbon fibre with almost perfect proportions.
Powering this new McLaren is a 3.0L V6 petrol engine with an electric motor working with a energy-dense battery pack. This combination produces 680 PS and a massive 720 Nm of torque which is about 200 horsepower per litre. Impressive figures that get further respect with a 1 to 100 kmph acceleration time of just 3.0 seconds or a 0-200 kmph time of just 8.3 seconds and a ridiculously quick 0 to 300 kmph (with permitting tarmac space) in just 21.5 seconds.
Now, McLaren claims a fuel efficiency figure of 50 plus miles to a gallon of high grade less subsidized RON97 petrol and a possible 30 kilometers of pure electric only driving range from a fully charged 7.4kWh battery. But honestly, which Artura buyer is going to care about emission free driving (unless stuck in heavy traffic with no choice but to follow along) when they have 680 PS at their disposal.
Get inside the Artura and you will find the best leather clad cabin from McLaren with quality detailing and finish. The Artura however, like all other McLaren Cars can be optioned further with added luxury and also comfort features like a 360 camera and higher quality sound system. Still, we feel that having a sound system makes little sense when it is the revving engine note that drivers should be enjoying.
The 360 camera option should be must have as parking this low slung supercar will take a lot of effort with our tight and crowded areas.
McLaren Kuala Lumpur, the official importer will offer you 5-year vehicle warranty and a 6-year battery warranty. There is also a 10-year body warranty that makes little sense when in Malaysia as motorcycles will nip and dent your Artura in heavy traffic.
