McLaren Artura hybrid supercar: First impression

The luxury carmaker McLaren has been known for its race and road cars achievements for more than 50 years. It started a new era in supercar technology and performance with the reveal of its first PHEV model, the Artura, last year. This supercar combines new technologies and lightweight construction with hybrid power. It underpins the brand's new MCLA platform exclusively made for electrified models.

McLaren Artura Price in Malaysia

To buy this high-performance hybrid supercar, one really needs to have deeper pockets, as the whopping price tag reads RM1,050,000 (before taxes and optional features). Included in the huge amount is a 5-year car warranty, 10-year body warranty, and six-year battery warranty.

McLaren Artura Engine and performance

Under the skin, the McLaren Artura comes equipped with a 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 engine mated to an axial flux e-motor combinedly, producing a system output of 680 hp and a peak torque of 720 Nm. Broken down, the V6 turbo delivers 585 hp and 585 Nm, while the electric motor is good for making 94 hp and 225 Nm. 

The powertrain also comes fitted with a 7.4 kWh battery pack, which offers an all-electric range of 30 km.

The supercar comes with the performance benefits of the brand's V8 engine and has the additional advantage of better torque response at low-engine speeds delivering amazing acceleration. Contributing to the latter is the supercar's lightweight construction. The hybrid powertrain weighs 160 kg, i.e., 50 kg less than a V8 mill, whereas the chassis tips the scale at 82 kg, the entire weight of the car measures 1,498 kg.

With the class-leading weight advantage at heart, the Artura runs from zero to 100 kmph in 3 seconds, 0-200 kmph in 8.3 seconds, and 0-300 kmph in 21.5 seconds. The top speed is rated at 330 kmph.

In terms of fuel consumption, the brand's most fuel-efficient car ever produced runs for 100 km with 5.6 litres of fuel.

McLaren Artura Exterior

McLaren's answer to the Ferrari 296 GTB looks absolutely stunning from every angle. It boasts a low-nose and high-tail stance, cab-forward silhouette, and a short wheelbase. The vehicle is sculpted in a way to optimise the performance and control airflow for cooling and aerodynamics. The significant highlights are -
