Mazda to bring MX-5 30th Anniversary Edition to celebrate its global success

KUALA LUMPUR: Mazda, the popular luxury Japanese automaker, is planning to reveal the MX-5 30th Anniversary Edition in its home country. It has been 30 years since people witnessed the launch of the small Japanese vehicle and in this span, it has gone on to be a worldwide success for the company. And hence, to make its anniversary special, the automaker has decided to bring a special edition of the car.

Mazda has teased us with one image and nothing about the special edition MX-5 is clear. However, it are sure that it will be based on the MX-5 RF as the Targa's folding hardtop is clearly visible in the teaser photo. A different red paint job seems to be used rather than Soul Red paint, which is present at the fourth-gen ND model.

The 30th Anniversary edition will, perhaps, be dressed in the MX-5’s traditional Classic Red. Earlier at the 2017 Tokyo Auto Salon, the color was featured on an ND roadster, and following the event, the vehicle was on sale in the manufacturer’s home market for a limited period of time.

The 2019 MX-5 also received some updates recently. It is powered by a 2.0-litre naturally-aspirated Skyactiv-G petrol mill, which can make a maximum of 184 PS power, coming at 6,800 rpm, while the peak torque sticks at 205 Nm, which comes at 7,500 rpm.

There is also a 1.5-litre engine that got some updates in its pistons, intake ports, injectors, and fuel pump. As a result of these tweaks, the torque has been improved than before. The engine can make a maximum of 132 PS power at 7,000 rpm, while the peak torque is 152 Nm, which comes at 4,000 rpm.
