Mazda Malaysia to introduce the highly anticipated CX-60 this year

KUALA LUMPUR: Mazda Malaysia is gearing up to launch the much-anticipated CX-60 in 2024, as recently highlighted by The Edge Malaysia. The vehicle, which made its worldwide debut in March of the previous year, is now set to enter the Malaysian market.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • Will the CX-60 be a replacement for the CX-5?

No it will not,it will be sold alongside the 2024 facelift CX-5 which will also be debuting this year
  • What category SUV is the CX-60?

It's a premium SUV and will bravely take on SUVs from manufacturers such as BMW and Mercedes
  • In an announcement made in August 2023, Mazda confirmed the upcoming introduction of the CX-60 in Malaysia adding weight to the claim. The new model is expected to be priced above the CX-8 and CX-9, potentially surpassing the RM300,000 mark, especially given the RM328,000 pricing of the CX-9.

The Mazda CX-60's main appeal, according to those who have sampled it, lies in its combination of luxury features, performance, and affordability compared to its premium rivals. It's also Mazda's first plug-in hybrid vehicle (PHEV) and is positioned as a high-end model, aiming to compete with brands like BMW and Mercedes. The CX-60 features a stylish design, a spacious and high-quality interior with Japanese craftsmanship, and impressive technical capabilities.

The CX-60 is a luxury SUV that stands out with its new rear-wheel-drive platform. Its dimensions are 4,745mm (length), 1,890mm (width), and 1,670mm (height), with a 2,870mm wheelbase, making it slightly smaller than the Mazda CX-8. The SUV's minimalist design features high-end materials like Nappa leather, Maple wood accents, and Japanese fabric textures.

Key features of the CX-60 include a 12.3-inch infotainment screen, a full LCD instrument panel, and a dashboard design that draws inspiration from the CX-5.

The powertrain options for the CX-60 vary by market. In Singapore, it is equipped with a 2.5L Skyactiv-G engine that produces 188hp and 261Nm of torque. The version available in Indonesia comes with a 3.3L e-Skyactiv -G + 48V inline-six turbocharged engine with a mild-hybrid system, delivering 280hp and 450Nm of torque. Meanwhile, the Philippines version is powered by a 3.3L e-Skyactiv-G and a 3.3L e-Skyactiv-D inline-six turbo diesel engine, offering 250hp and 550Nm of torque.

The Mazda CX-60 in Malaysia is likely to have a range of powertrain options. It would be nice if Mazda Malaysia offers it with Mazda's first-ever plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrain, known as e-Skyactiv PHEV. This system combines a 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine with an electric motor and a 17.8 kWh lithium-ion battery. Together, they produce a total system output of 327 hp and 500 Nm of torque, making it the most powerful production.
