Mazda Malaysia opens bookings for the new BT-50 pickup

KUALA LUMPUR: It was only recently that Bermaz Motor (official distributor of Mazda in Malaysia) teased us with silhouettes of two cars in a single image. One of which we suspected to be the BT-50 and we were right! As Mazda Malaysia has now opened bookings for the new pickup.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • Malaysia-spec Mazda BT-50 engine options?

    the new BT-50 will be offered in two engine options - a 1.9-litre in-line four-cylinder DOHC intercooler diesel engine and y a 3.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel unit.
  • Is the new Mazda BT-50 a safe pickup?

he all-new BT-50 mirrors range-topping D-Max advanced driver assistance suite of features that includes - Adaptive Cruise Control, Automatic High Beam, Auto Emergency Braking, Blind Spot Monitoring with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, Forward Collision Warning, and Lane Departure Warning System.
  • Back then we didn’t have any information about the pickup but now tables are turning. So, let’s now get into the details, starting with the new BT-50 variant and price -

The upcoming Mazda BT-50 will be offered in two variants in Malaysia - the entry-level 1.9L AT High and range-topping 3.0L AT High Plus. Both the models will be offered in double-cab body style. The new Mazda BT-50 price will commence at RM 124,179.

    New Mazda BT-50 exterior

    Mazda BT-50

The new BT-50 is based on the 3rd generation Isuzu D-Max that arrived in Malaysia earlier this year. However, the resemblance can not be seen on the outside as Mazda has given its pickup a unique body shell that is based on the brand’s Kodo design language.

Highlighting bits on the outside include - a massive front chrome grille and sleek LED headlights. Compared to the aggressive D-Max, the new BT-50 looks mature, similar to the SUVs in its range.

Unlike the exterior that’s unique and different from D-Max, the cabin shares resemblance to the Isuzu pickup. The classy interior apart from the rounded air-con vents and new satin silver dashboard trim gets - a nine-inch touchscreen information display with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support, analog instrument clusters with a 4.2-inch multi-info display, and dual-zone climate control.

    New Mazda BT-50 seats

The images also show the pickup benefiting from brown leather-wrapped seats like the ones seen in the range-topping D-Max model. Taking a step further in the passenger comfort front, Mazda has included additional knee pads around the centre console.

Both the mills are paired to a six-speed automatic transmission.
