Mazda launches MX-5 35th Anniversary Edition; refreshes 2025 lineup

KUALA LUMPUR: Bermaz Motor, the exclusive distributor of Mazda vehicles in Malaysia, has launched the highly anticipated Mazda MX-5 35th Anniversary Edition. This special MX-5 pays homage to 35 years of timeless design and driving exhilaration.

Available in a limited quantity, the MX-5 35th Anniversary Edition is crafted with meticulous attention to detail, making it a collector’s piece. It is a perfect blend of heritage-inspired elements and modern refinements.

Alongside introducing this special model, Bermaz Motor has also rolled out the all-new 2025 Mazda MX-5 line-up featuring cosmetic enhancements, new features, and upgraded connectivity. 

Mazda MX-5 35th Anniversary Edition: Key highlights

• The sports car boasts Mazda’s Kodo: Soul of Motion design philosophy with sculpted lines and balanced stance that highlight aerodynamic purity and emotional appeal. 
• It is sprayed with a special three-layer Artisan Red Premium exterior paint, which is the brand’s fourth special colour made from the unique Takuminuri painting technology.
• Further helping the 35th Anniversary Edition MX-5 stand out is a serialized 35th Anniversary Edition badge on the rear fender.
• Adding a touch of sophistication are body-coloured side mirrors and 17-inch Bright Metallic alloy wheels.

• The interior has a Classic Sports Tan theme with matching Tan dashboard trim, carpeting, and floor mats. Artisan Red Premium accents can be seen on AC vents and door panels.
• The floor mats and Tan leather seats feature the special 35th Anniversary Edition logo.
• The MX has been known for its lightweight agility, dynamic handling, and timeless style for 35 years. The special model takes this passion even further and delivers an exhilarating experience.

2025 Mazda MX-5: What’s new

Exterior 

The upgraded Mazda MX-5 gets the following exterior upgrades for a more striking and enhanced look - 

• New LED headlamps with recessed circular low beam for an eye-like effect
• New LED daytime running lights that turn orange when the turn signal is activated
• Upgraded LED rear combination lights with a concave lens for a bold "afterburner" effect
• Refreshed rear bumper with integrated reflectors and rear fog lights

Interior

The interior benefits from a new instrument cluster with a darker dial face and updated pointer for better readability. Also new for 2025 is an 8.8-inch infotainment system supporting voice recognition, a USB-C charging port, a frameless auto-dimming rearview mirror, and a high-definition reverse camera.

Safety

Mazda has upgraded the i-Activsense ADAS pack with the inclusion of the Rear Cross Traffic Alert system, enhancing driver confidence and awareness. 

Engine and performance

All the variants of the 2025 Mazda MX-5, including the 35th Anniversary Edition, are powered by the same 2.0-litre SkyActiv-G direct injection engine generating a maximum power of 181 hp and a peak torque of 205 Nm. 

Power is sent to the wheels via a six-speed SkyActiv automatic or a six-speed manual transmission. The former includes a manual shift option, while the latter features an asymmetric limited-slip differential for better traction.

The MT variant also gets a new DSC-TRACK mode, offering a more engaging and less intrusive driving experience. Also part of the kit is an updated Electronic Power Assisted Steering and a new Asymmetric Limited Slip Differential, which promises better traction during acceleration and deceleration.
