Maxus Mifa 9 EV is coming to Malaysia; here’s what it’ll offer

KUALA LUMPUR: Weststar Motors, the sole distributor of Maxus vehicles in Malaysia, made a surprise announcement on its social media page, i.e., the soon arrival of the 2023 Maxus Mifa 9 via dropping a teaser for the electric MPV.

The official teaser shows the Chinese-spec model, so we’ll have to wait for an official announcement as to what Maxima has in mind for the local market. Our neighboring country, Thailand also has the Mifa 9 EV on offer which we think might give us a better idea about Maxus’s offering for the ASEAN market (as it is more or less the same).

So, let us check out the Thai-spec Maxus 9

• In Thailand, the car is offered in two variants and a 7-seat configuration
• It is powered by a 90 kWh lithium-ion battery that juices the e-motor making 245 PS and 350 Nm of torque

• The battery offers a range of 540 km on a single charge

• In size, the Mifa 9 is larger than its competitors the Toyota Alphard/Vellfire; in fact, it has dimensions closer to that of the Hyundai Staria and Kia Grand Carnival

• The MPV is staked with several advanced features like full-LED lighting, an expansive glass roof, and captain seats

• The main difference between the two variants concerns the additional comfort features on offer. For instance, the range-topping model benefits from real leather upholstery (as opposed to synthetic), memory/heating/cooling function within the driver's seat, "VIP" captain seats by the second row, and 12 speakers over 8

• As for safety, the Thai-spec model comes standard with ADAS which includes - Autonomous Emergency Brake system (AEB), Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Traffic Jam Assist (TJA), Lane Keep Assist (LKA), Emergency Lane Keeping Assist (ELKA), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Blind Spot Warning with rear cross-traffic alert (BSM, RCTA)

Price? The Thai-spec Maxus Mifa 9 retails for between THB 2,499,000 (RM 331k) to THB 2,699,000 (RM 357k). Now, we have to see what all the upcoming Malaysia-spec Mifa 9 EV entails.
