Maserati Multi 70 won the RORC Transatlantic Race

KUALA LUMPUR: The 8th edition of the RORC Transatlantic Race was organized by the Royal Ocean Racing Club in collaboration with Yacht Club de France. The race was kicked off on January 8 with the participation of 32 boats, from more than 22 countries and was first completed by the Maserati Multi70 after an intense battle.

Maserati’s skipper Giovanni Soldini sailed the trimaran in the wild ride across the Atlantic from Lanzarote to Grenada covering a total distance of 2995 miles. Soldini, together with Vittorio Bissaro, Oliver Herrera Perez, Thomas Joffrin, Francesco Pedol, and Matteo Soldini finished the race in 6 days 18 hours 51 minutes 41 seconds. The trimaran put in 3476.5 real miles with an average speed of 21.4 knots. 

After the race, Soldini rejoicely stated, "It was a breathtaking race! Our crew gave their all and the Maserati Multi70 really made the difference." 

"I am very satisfied. The result of the work of these years is there for all to see. It has been a very long process of research and development: through records, round the world, and competitions we have continued to look for solutions, and the boat has gradually reached a maturity that allows it to fly stably and safely with a performance that is clearly superior - at least in these conditions - to that of its rivals who have been following the same path for years and use the latest generation of foils. The aerodynamic and kinetic progress made over the last year, thanks to the contribution of the Maserati Innovation Lab engineers and designer Guillaume Verdier, is evident, he added.

Soldini’s team overtook their rivals Argo and PowerPlay. Peter Cunningham's PowerPlay was skippered by Ned Collier Wakefield grabbed second place, while Jason Carroll's Argo skippered by Brian Thompson managed to get the third spot.

Winning the race marks the beginning of a new season of great technical and sporting challenges for Soldini and the entire team of Maserati Multi70 to safeguard the oceans.

Soldini has joined the Ocean Literacy program, promoted by UNESCO, which aims at increasing awareness and knowledge about the sea. 

In addition, the trimaran will also be transformed into an oceanographic laboratory for the scientific community. Maserati as the main sponsor not only gives its name to the boat but also collaborates with Soldini in the process of transferring technological know-how applied to the "laboratory boat".
