In this article, we’ll be discussing the Maserati MC20 supercar in detail -

The story behind the name: If the name MC20 confuses you then here’s a bit of an explanation. While the letters MC stands for ‘Maserati Corse’, the numeric figure 20 denotes the car’s introductory year, 2020.

Engine: In over 20 years, Maserati has made its own engine. Powering the new Maserati supercar is the brand’s new Nettuno mill with the company's new Twin Combustion tech derived from Formula 1. The 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 powertrain features twin spark plugs and generates a maximum power of 630 hp along with a peak torque of 730 Nm. The power is sent to the wheels via an 8-speed dual-clutch gearbox

Performance: The above-mentioned configuration enables the supercar to complete the century sprint in just 2.9 seconds and touch 200 kmph mark in only 8.8 seconds. It can attain a top speed of 325 kmph given that the driver goes full throttle for long enough

Body frame: It took Maserati 24 months to design MC20’s body, during this period the car was tested for various simulations including wind tunnel tests.

Weight: The MC20 benefits from an overall carbon fibre monocoque structure that results in a lot of weight reduction. It now weighs less than 1500 kg, that's even less than the BMW 320i. Meaning it is a lightweight supercar with no dearth of power

Brake: Apart from a powerful engine, a supercar requires potent brakes. The 20-inch wheels of MC20 wrapped in Bridgestone Potenza tyre house Brembo 6-pot brake in the front and a 4-pot pair at the back.

Exterior highlights: The MC20 features several cool styling bits on the outside, the list includes butterfly-style doors with flush handles, a glass engine cover with cut-outs mimicking Masersti’s Trident logo. Also, part of the kit is a rear boot & a funk.

Interior: The first thing anyone enters the MC20 supercar via its butterfly-style doors is the exposed carbon-fibre on the doors; quite a straight we must say. One has to pull the strap to close the door that gets opened through a switch. The cockpit, we must say is very minimalistic with nothing much to distract the driver from a fun drive. Likewise, the centre console is neatly stacked with only the driving necessary bits, like a rotary dial with five modes (GT, Sport, Wet, Corsa, ESC Off), suspension settings, and switches to put the car in either reverse or drive/manual mode. In typical Italian fashion, the brake pedals come engraved with Trident and the front passenger side door gets a ‘Maserati’ engraved steel plate

Comfort & connectivity: The MC20 features a 10-inch instrument panel and a 10-inch infotainment display, a couple of switches for volume and power window, and carbon-fibre & Alcantara steering wheel with shift paddles. Adding to the car’s comfort factor is a wireless charging station and cruise control

Manufacturing: Designed by Modena, the all-new MC20 supercar will be built at the automaker’s Viale Ciro Menotti facility which has been making Maserati cars for more than 80 years. The facility features a new paint shop with innovative & environment-friendly tech. As for the Nettuno engine (Maserati’s first home-made unit), it will be manufactured at the newly established Maserati Engine Lab

Colour options: Maserati is offering the MC20 in six hues all of which are designed and developed exclusively for the car. Also, these shades convey separate themes linked to Maserati tradition and their Italian origin. They are named as follows - Grigio Mistero, Bianco Audace, Rosso Vincente, Blu Infinito, Giallo Genio, and Nero Enigma

Price: The all-new MC20 retails for RM 1,078,000 (before local duties and taxes, insurance, and customisation options). Every purchase is accompanied by 3-year standard warranty coverage with no mileage restrictions and a free maintenance program of 3 years/60,000 km, whichever comes first.
