Maserati Ghibli Hybrid revealed, the brand’s first electric car

KUALA LUMPUR: The Trident brand has started a new chapter, that is faster than diesel and more green than petrol. We are talking about the world of electrification in which the Italian luxury carmaker, Maserati has just entered. The automaker recently revealed its first electrified model - Ghibli Hybrid, as per the schedule.

Distinguishing itself from the standard Ghibli, the exterior styling of the hybrid model has been tweaked with blue accents. The blue colour characterizes the three iconic side air vents, the brake calipers, and the thunderbolt in the oval that encompasses the brand’s logo on the rear pillar. The same blue shade appears inside the cabin also, particularly on the embroidered seams of the seats. 

The Ghibli Hybrid also features the new stylistic appointments, starting from the new front grille, which has redesigned bars to represent a tuning fork, a musical device that emits an extremely pure sound, and which also evokes the Trident symbol. The significant changes made at the rear end of the sedan include the restyled light clusters featuring a boomerang-like profile inspired by the Alfieri concept and 3200 GT.

The new Ghibli Hybrid is powered by a mild-hybrid drivetrain that combines a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder unit with a 48-volt alternator and an additional electric supercharger, supported by a battery. The innovative powertrain churns out a combined 330 hp of power and 450 Nm of torque delivered from just 1,500 rpm. 

Maserati Ghibli Hybrid can manage a top speed of 255 kmph, while the run from naught to 100 kmph is accomplished in just 5.7 seconds, quite impressive.

The Ghibli hybrid comes with a new 10.1-inch touchscreen display with the new Maserati Connect program, which features over-the-air updates and monitors the car's safety security services in emergencies. The Maserati Intelligent Assistant multimedia system is based on digital inputs from Android Automotive, a software that delivers an innovative User Experience fully customizable to the driver's personal preferences. 

Maserati has plans to revamp its whole lineup with hybridization and electrification in the coming years. The brand's first all-electric cars will be the new GranCabrio and GranTurismo, scheduled for next year.
