Maserati corners to racing legacy for its new sports car MC20
KUALA LUMPUR: Maserati has again held onto its roots with its latest project—a brand new “super sports car” called the MC20.
On Thursday, the Italian automaker revealed the name of its new speedster, that will arrive this spring. Not only is the MC20 the first vehicle of the company’s “new era,” it will also mark its return to racing.
In a press release, the brand revealed that the sports car’s name stands for Maserati Corse 2020—or Maserati Racing 2020 in English. The MC20, which will eventually have its own racing variant, is meant to be the natural evolution of the MC12, a limited-edition supercar the company produced in 2004.
Maserati has chosen the Maserati Multi 70 trimaran and Giovanni Soldini’s Team to tell the world the name of its new super sports car, developed, engineered and 100% built in Italy.
In this way, Giovanni Soldini and his crew pay a special tribute to the Trident Brand: underlining the connection between the high-performance trimaran and the new Maserati super sports car. The Maserati Multi 70 trimaran is the "laboratory boat" to which the Modena Innovation Lab engineers have transferred their aerodynamics, technological innovation and performance know-how. And these same values guided the team of engineers and technicians when developing the MC20.
Since 2012, Maserati and Giovanni Soldini have been united by the same values of passion, adrenalin and the pursuit of the highest performance, and have been working together in a strategic partnership far beyond any ordinary sponsorships.
The Italian automaker has come up with an unconventional way of revealing the name of its new car to the world. A logo with the name of the new model has been appearing on the mainsail of Maserati Multi 70 that is sailing through the Caribbean Sea.
Maserati MC20 and Maserati Multi 70 share similarities between aerodynamics, technological innovation and performance, which has been developed at the Innovation Lab in Modena.
A delighted Giovanni Soldini said in his speech: “I am proud to represent the Trident Brand worldwide and am honored that the trimaran Maserati Multi 70 has been chosen for the launch of the new MC20 logo. I can't wait to test drive the car and to attend the big May event in Modena.”
The car's debut is eagerly anticipated in the coming Spring season when the brand will mark its presence in a great celebratory event in Modena and claim a place at the center of the world stage for the future of automotive.
