Malaysia's Proton Joins Hands with Suzuki
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s stumbling national carmaker Proton, on Monday, joined hands with Japan’s Suzuki Motor Corp in its latest bid to help sales by targeting the compact car market.
Here's a quote from SMC's announcement:
"As the first stride of the coordinated effort, SMC will supply KD (Knock Down) segments for a model of Suzuki auto to PROTON. PROTON will produce at its own plant, convey and offer such models under PROTON mark through its business arranged in Malaysia. The main model will be a smaller traveler auto, to be produced at the PROTON Tanjung Malim plant from around August 2016. Other extra models will be commonly considered by PROTON and SMC."
In accordance with the information exchanged, a "minimal traveler vehicle," which is not a current Suzuki model, is relied upon to be propelled in 2016 as a Proton model. In respect to what that model will be, no conviction has been saved. In any case, Tun Mahathir, Proton's administrator, did say at a public interview that it would be something Proton doesn't offer yet, in its range.
In the event that we needed to think about what the products of this MoU be, it would be between an A-fragment sort auto (to battle the Perodua Axia), or a B-portion SUV (something along the lines of a Perodua Kembara-sort).
